Walhalla: In search of gold, history & Liam Neeson in Victoria's prettiest town
I travel to the historic gold mining town of Walhalla to explore some of its past, admire its breathtaking beauty and talk to locals about the time Hollywood star Liam Neeson came to town.

absolutely fantastic video, so informative, loved it
I was there 2 years ago and like you was impressed by how tidy and friendly the town is. We have so many tourists gems in Victoria.
A quiet little country town with not many residents living there; perfect and such a beautiful place. I love country Victoria.
Went on the train a few months ago, been visiting since I was a child. We take our son for lunch at the pub now.
Nice
Love my visits there. We take the dogs up and have a picnic near the old tennis courts (now a picnic area) and then walk in. They only connected to mains power electricity I think in the 1990’s and got mobile reception (due to its fire prone safety) in the last 5 or so years. Walking the old timber tram lines along the edge of the hills above town (most of those current paths along the edge were tramways) we have found old bottles etc over the years.
I'm really enjoying your travels of small towns, giving me ideas of pleases to visit.
Such a lovely little town and well worth visiting. But I think you should revise the value of all the gold mined. You'll probably have to add a couple of zeros. Cheers
It’s been a very long time since I visited Walhalla yes! It’s beautiful and so enchanting and as you’ve said “ frozen in time” thank you for this very interesting and informative video!
Frog Dreaming, starring Henry Thomas (E.T.), was filmed in Walhalla in 1986. That's one from my childhood that shows the incredible beauty of the town. It's still a magical movie for kids and adults lol
WOW what a beautiful spot. Thanks for showing it to me. Such interesting history
Walhalla looks like my idea of paradise ! Another excellent video Terry, thanks for all the effort you put into your channel.
The place I’m planning on spending my retirement years in. I’m 35 this year😊 I’m sure Walhalla will be patiently waiting for me.
Growing up in Strathbogie,I still reckon this is my second favourite town, good job 👍🏻
Looks beautiful
We did the ghost tour late last year, before Liam's visit.😢
Well done!
Really love your channel Terry, I love exploring the outback and country towns. You seem like a great guy, it’s what keeps me coming back to hear of your adventures. Keep it up Suzy

@@LetsGo012 do you go by yourself? If so is it lonely? I wouldn’t be able to do this alone, you would be very independent I’m guessing

Thanks 😀. Walhalla is definitely worth a visit.
I am loving your videos, would love to see you check out Southern NSW :)
The Long Tunnel extended mine produced 440 thousand ounces of gold....not 440! Lol. That's almost 14 tonnes of gold. Just a little bit more than what you said.... 😁
Your living the dream, thankyou for showing us around Walhalla, 1 question I have is how much does it cost you to live in that van per week? Fuel, food, camp fees, etc .? Thanks in advance, cheers ❤️🦘🦘🦘🇦🇺

I’m still only starting out so I’m trying to get a handle on the finances. I do know it’s cheaper than paying rent. I’ll probably do a “costs” video once I’m travelling long enough to have an average weekly cost.
Weighted correctly which is heavier a lb of gold or a lb of feathers? Precious metals like gold and silver are measured using the “troy” system where there are 12 ounces in a pound. If you normalize everything to mass a pound of feathers is 454 grams and a pound of gold is 373 grams, therefore the feathers are technically heavier.
if only you knew the locals
OMG I was watching they paint the building to green and blue in the end of January, really hate those colors.
Incorrect. There was 1.4 billion dollars of gold taken out of that mine valued at the time the sign was made which is 1.75 billion now

Correct....today even slightly more almost touching 2 billion.

@@LetsGo012 You're welcome, enjoyed the tour of Walhalla, haven't been there since early 90's and has a wonderful atmosphere.
Good vid, not 100% on your research tho..
Country Victoria is great. As for marvellous Melbourne, it has been ruined by hideous Labor governments.

@@user-pv5nq7fq8l Being roughly the same age as you, my guess is that the OP hasn't adjusted to changes over time. On a side note, I think Victoria has some very beautiful towns and country, but as a New South Welshman I'd never admit that to anyone. ;)

Agree. This mongrel labor government has destroyed this state
It would be best if you concentrated on showing everyone the beauty of Walhalla with a background commentary. There's nothing wrong with your voice, but NOT everyone is destined to be a documentary presenter. I'm the first thumb's down. Sorry!
