I found it funny how Wale probably don't know the lyrics yet when she teared up at the beginning. This song is usually sung at weddings, and funerals. It's an anthem of love. Of an undying love that transcends everything. Love that doesn't know boundaries. This is the magic of Filipino singing culture, if we can't feel the song through your singing, you're not cutting it enough. Probably why we have tons of singers. Because the aim was not to just sing, it's to convey the song with the emotion.

Just like Wale, I usually tear up when I hear Basil Valdez' rendition of this song...it totally brings up this welling up of emotions out of nowhere, emotions that I didn't know I had...that's how powerful Basil's voice is...and I not only belong to his generation, but I'm very familiar with his body of work...

He is called a balladeer in the Philippines, most of his songs are originally composed by Mr. George Canseco, if you have a translation of this song, the words are beautifully and meaningfully written in Tagalog but translated,is still well meant. George Canseco was born in Bulacan, so was another composer Rey Valera. Their place is known to be where poets, writers, composers came from. They have mastery of deep Tagalog words and even the first Philippine Constitution was created in their town of Malolos. "Kastilyong Buhangin" is another one good song. This type of songs usually usually become movie soundtrack too. Thank you and more songs to hear your reactions from.

It's so wonderful seeing people like you appreciate this (his) kind of music. Nowadays, specially the young generation, have less appreciation of such type of music to none at all. Which was translated to Spanish "TU" and sang by Regine Velasquez which you guys had previously reacted. OMG, it's Basil Valdes. He started in the 70's group, the Circus Band where all the members were fantastic singers. The group disbanded and he later became the Philippines' no.1 balladeer with several hit songs under his belt. He sang compositions of great Filipino composers like Ryan Cayabyab and Vehnee Saturno. In the 1990's Basil developed cancer and would only sing in rare charity events as he devoted his life to religious undertakings. I had the privilege of hearing Basil sing up close in a very small concert of 50 people in my law school . At that time, he already had cancer and while he sang, I found myself crying and having goosebumps all over.

He sang a lot of songs that have withstood the test of time, meaning, to this day, his songs are still being sung and recorded by younger artists. First time to hear him sing at his age. Seems like there is already shortness of breathing with age and probably some heart of lung conditions. But listen to him in his heyday and the tone, resonance, and quality of voice is exemplary. This guy is also a person who overcame a terrorist attack that caused him to lose the function of one of his leg. Wale cried even if she didn't understand the lyrics because music is the language of the soul. Music transcends, the here and now, cultures, etc. Waleska and Efra I so much enjoy you bring the OPMS and the timeless Filipino singers again during the pandemic. It must be written in stars that you do it to entertain and educate us. Your background in music by the way you analyze each of them at your youth age s very refreshing. I tip off my hat to each one of you as you made me love the Filipino music and singers much more. It takes for both of you to highlight the beauty and soul of the Filipino music more than any of my countrymen and women did. You should be hired by the Department of Tourism, National Commission on the Culture and the Arts etc. to speak to our young people to appreciate the treasure of our music. What can I say to both of you including your dad? Superflagilisticexpialidocipus!

“NGAYON AT KAILANMAN” translates as.. “NOW AND FOREVER” is a promise.. heartfelt promise.. to love somebody in one’s lifetime Thats why the emotions transcends even if the language is not understood… Music really is a universal language… music is a gift if God to mankind.. our Creators purpose isfor man to create hymns of praise.. hymns of worship to the GIFTGIVER first of all..

In a sense.. you two are archeologists.. digging up the past of the roots of Filipino’s musicality.. taking steps backwards to see a view of how our music evolved to the present where you are.. to look forward to what will be trending on your children’s generation..

You are the only vloggers I’ve watched who explored the OPM like really deep and even appreciate it. The moment you explored Asin, I was like these persons really appreciate real music. Keep discovering OPM it’s so nostalgic.
