This Wales team was better than the one that got to the semi's of Euro 2016..Player for player

I was there as a 15 year old. Absolute fantastic performance and night. The stadium was electric. And to top it off I managed to sneak into walk about after and enjoy my first pints in Cardiff!

I'm so glad this was uploaded. I've only just found it but remember randomly looking for videos of this game a year or so ago for nostalgia and only bad quality vids existed. I'm even more glad this has been uploaded now as my Dad passed away in April and he took me to this game when I was 14 years old. One of my best memories of him and of football. Thank you for uploading. The quality is insane.

Too many injuries in the last games.

I still cannot believe that this Welsh team never qualified for a tournament. I'll never forget the heartbreak I felt attending the play-off second leg loss against Russia in 2003. It felt like my soul had been sucked out.

Wales is a constituent country which is a part of the United Kingdom (along with England, Scotland and Northern Ireland). So it’s not a sovereign nation (yet) but it has a long cultural history and was independent some 800 years ago before it was essentially occupied by Norman-Saxons. For a long time it was legally recognised as a part of the Kingdom of England but over the years gained limited recognition. It now has it its own parliament which has limited law making abilities but more impressively an ancient language which has survived despite the dominance of English.

I remember the return leg in Italy, when the Italian fans and police thought they could bully us Welsh fans...... Boy, were they wrong 👍

Im from Russia and i was wondered when Wales in play-off played so bad with my country... And if 0-0 IN Moscow I can understand, but the an absence of goals in Cardiff is so strange... It was very good team and its a shame that Wales waited for 12 (!!!) years for the first Euro...

The referee didn't play advantage (check at 8:27, you can see the ref on the left blowing his whistle and running toward the sideline). And, frankly he was correct to do so, the defender had position on the ball so there was no apparent advantage. Yes, the defender slipped, and the attacker ended up getting the ball and scoring, but the whistle had gone long long before that, people just didn't know it. Especially with such a hard foul requiring (I assume) at least a caution, you don't let the game continue without the attackers retaining immediate possession.

after the foul the ref thought italian defender was the favorite to get the ball fiirst, thus thinking wales didnt have the advantage, without knowing he would slip and wales had the ball

After this they struggled to fill the millennium stadium (around 75,000 seats) so moved to the Cardiff City Stadium when that opened. Since then the CCS has become a bit of a fortress (with the red wall) and the team has been more successful since playing there

It turned out that Sir Alex had made a deal with Wales, where the number of International matches each season that Giggs plays in will be capped. This was because he is prone to injuring his hamstring, and he did not want to seriously compromise his fitness for Man Utd fixtures. What this meant in practise was that Giggs missed many friendly matches, and in fact did not make his 'friendly' debut until the Finland match in 2000 (only to end up missing the match against Brazil immediately afterwards!).

Bought tickets from a young couple outside the stadium who said they couldn't go then was regretting it. Turned out the seats where in front of the press box and the retired Welsh players. What a game, Simon Davies was untouchable, and the ref tried his best to give them the game. Should have won the group but was cheated to a draw in Italy by a similar ref. It's all about $$$$ and the larger TV audiences.

As good a team, if not better than the 2016 boys. Both teams were runners up in their group. However in the 2004 qualifiers, it only got you to the play offs, and it just wasn't our day against the drug fuelled Russians.
