As a professional photographer and filmmaker, I also own the lovely Panasonic GF1. Although I mainly use a Nikon a Nikon D800 with Nikkor lenses for stills, plus an old Panasonic GH3 for video, I still find a use for the tiny GF1. The very sharp Lumix 7-14mm lens is actually superb matched with the GF1. It is this combination I will be climbing mountains with next week. 🙂📷

I recently rediscovered mine! I have had many other more capable and newer m43 bodies and lenses (currently also own Em1mkiii) but the GF1 + 20mm 1.7 combo holds a special place in my heart. During the time I bought it I was living out of my car for 8 months of the year- in Yosemite/Sierras/SW US climbing, backpacking, camping, biking, etc. Documented everything with this camera. It's so old now it's good again! I really really love the monochrome and Nostalgia jpeg settings! quelled my Fujifilm curiosity and great for every day carry casual camera. The older 12mp sensors also render quite naturally and different than todays sensors as well.

The GF1 was my entry into the M43's system in 2009. It was one of my favorite cameras. I took a lot of my favorite photos with that camera, the kit lens, and the 20mm pancake. I still have the GX1, which came out shortly afterward. I still use the M43's system today with the Panasonic GM5 and Olympus PEN-F. It's currently my only digital interchangeable lens camera system, and very capable. Thanks Kenneth!

I’m a longtime subscriber, I don’t know how this got past me at the time. I couldn’t afford one when it first came out, but I read several reviews on TOP about THIS VERY CAMERA you are holding. In the following years, I finally bought one, along with every accessory listed in the promotional material. I am enjoying it a lot. I actually bought a second body as a backup. I don’t think I’ve ever had more fun with a camera in my life.

I purchased my gf1 body several years ago for $50. You are right, it takes great photos. I mainly use a Panasonic 25mm 1.7. Also use vintage manual focus lenses. I have the EVF that was made for this camera, also $50.

@@kennethwajda incredibly convenient. It goes everywhere and is really nice in close situations like street or when with friends. The quality of image is terrific. Can’t believe how little it cost.

I use an Olympus OMD EM5 mk III, with the 12-40 f2.8 pro lens. It’s a great kit, and I have committed to using that body / lens combo only as my main “axe” for at least a year BUT: I find it too heavy to carry trekking and hiking; I am trying to stay in the “ultra-light” zone when on the trails. So my answer is exactly this set-up. It’s capable and light and everything you said and more. Just “contain” the iso. I love my Olympus, but I love simplicity a lot too.

What is strange is this small pocket sized setup is what M43 was supposed to be. I bought the GX1 and 20mm 1.7 in 2013 . The newer m43 cameras are as big as Sony/Fuji APS-C and cost almost as much.

Strangely gf1 produces much better skin tone than other newer m43 models. Gf1 has very bad noise performance and dynamic range. But for portraits, even G9 can't beat GF1 in terms of skin tones. The pictures from Gf1 has some Leica feel (except for the poor dynamic range and noise performance)

the jpegs are really good! monochrome and nostalgia in particular- it was amazing to discover this new to me feature because all I did was shoot raw with this camera 10+ years ago. Now I don't have to buy one of those fujifilms!

I still rarely ever use any modern camera above 100 ISO and to me 400 is the limit. I just find all cameras, even those released this year, have too much noise and digital artifacts at high ISO. I guess it stems back to my decades of using colour transparencies and Velvia 50 ASA would be my main emulsion for all light conditions, including night photography. I have occasionally pushed my Nikon digital cameras to 3200 for images of wildlife at dusk...but it is extremely rare occasions I'd push ISO to these silly high levels.

Actually, I use M4/3 cameras. I actually shoot above 400iso from time to time. Actually, I find 800iso fine. Of course M4/3 are smaller sensors and not the best for low light. But, they can handle some. I have seen shoots at 1600 and look fine, of course more modern sensors. And as you said, most of us no longer print. We view from a computer screen or via social media on a tablet/smartphone. So, people are more forgiving. And with denoise in PP, magic can happen. That being said, I'm thinking about picking up a GF1 as a travel camera with a 14-42 and a 25mm1.8. if it gets stolen, no big deal. I'd miss the SD card more.
