Doing a bike review in rain mode ? Than complaining about boring engine and performance ? How silly is that ? If a Harley or Triumph vibrates, it's called by you character. A BMW does is, it's bad, you expected better. If a bike has a unique sound, it's character, as long it's not a BMW ? Please, don't do reviews on BMW's, you obviously don't like them. You just make a lot people angry with this silly reviews. And don't say "honestly" every few words, please.

Bought a 2006 BMW K1200R in October 2005 as my first, non-scooter motorcycle. OMG! [Do people still use "OMG"?] It was a Rocket Ship and wayyy more bike than anything other than a crotch-rocket! Essentially stopped riding it, traillered it 600 miles to my Ducati Monster brother thinking he would love it. Nope. He allowed a commercial architect riding buddy to ride it (along with the architect's five bikes). I later learned that the architect loaned this K-bike to his largest ever client (another bike collector-rider with multiple bikes) and my brother did not tell me any of this until a year later. Meanwhile, I was making $450 monthly payments along with insurance and sending annual registration stickers to Bro. Sold to the Architect's client in 2009 for $9k. I then gave myself The DumbAss of the Decade award for Incredible Stupidity ! And began riding a Honda Rebel 250 and a Sportster XL883 (both bought new).

I ride its big brother, an R1250R. The reality is that a boxer engine is a unique engine, which one loves or one hates. One cannot rev it like a straight 4, but it gives tons of torgue at low revs. Bit more like a diesel, though it is not a diesel. My BM, despite the stats, has superb acceleration, excellent handling, and will easily keep pace with a 1000 cc sports on the road. it will not compete on a track, but then I am not interested in track racing. The R9T appeals, as it is smaller and probably more practical. It is a naked bike. Also it has simple clocks. I actually do not appreciate the TFT gismo on the R1250R, and wish instead I had the usual set of clocks which I am used to in previous bikes.

I love this bike. One reason I fell in love with BMW bikes was the BMW accessory plug. I had an R1150 R that I put 40,000 miles on. I was able to do that because with the accessory plug I could plug in a heated liner and connect the liner to heated gloves and drive it all year long, even on the coldest days of winter in a northern state without a problem. If this bike has the same accessory plug option it’ll stay on my list of bikes I’d like to have in my stable.

If a million people haven’t said this already, the boxer layout has nothing to do with the bike rocking when it’s revved. The crankshaft rotates around the centreline of the bike with the flywheel and clutch at one end. The rocking is the torque reaction a la Newton - to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Check out any rubber mounted engine in a car, truck, boat, etc. On most motorcycles the crank runs across the centreline so we don’t feel the torque reaction - it’s absorbed by the suspension and tyres. I bet a Moto Guzzi (transverse v-twin) has the same torque reaction as the BMW. It’s kind of wild setting up for a corner and rev matching downshifts.

If you can get hold of one, you really need to try out one of the old K series BMW's. The K100 was a 1000cc inline 4, and the K75 was a 750cc inline 3 (the 1000cc engine minus one cylinder, and a balancer shaft added). In typical BMW fashion the engine configuration was not quite what you'd expect. With the engines being turned through 90 degrees, compared to your standard inline set up. Very nice, smooth bikes, and a massive step up from the previous generation R series boxers.

My first big bike was a R9T and I loved that bike. I did add a Wilbers suspension and a bunch of other stuff. Great bike with limitations. Kept it for four years and did everything from light touring to track days. It has it's merits and character but I get it is not for everyone.

Sorry Yammie bit disagree with you. I owned Speed Twin and sold it for R9T. BMW is way better than Triumph. It is not easy to say that because I had three Triumphs before. Speed Twin sounds better but performs not even close to R9T. Mine has adjustable suspension and that makes a huge difference in handling.

I own one of these and agree that the engine isn't super exciting. Compared to a Ducati it feels a little bland. Still a great bike! I also think it needs a lot in the way of aftermarket parts. The bland cast alumium and design to me looks sub par. The parts were also borrowed from the gs platform. Which means that for a lot of models there are to many contrasting colors. I make cnc machined parts, which is why I bought it. It had the most to be desired out of the bikes I was considering making parts for!

19:46 If someone catches up to you just wave them past if you don’t want them behind you, that should be the etiquette lesson here. Then you can both go about your rides at your own paces. Don’t ride so close to someone if you are behind them, but equally don’t hold another rider up. You did pull over and let him by but why let that ruin your mood? We are all just having fun on these things.

Why are you yelling? The boxer motor is a mechanical wonder. I like how they put it out there, as opposed to bikes that cover everything up like they're embarrassed of the motor. Motors are cool. Many airplanes have opposing cylinders. The motor with the shaft drive is simple yet sophisticated.

I had the original R NineT from 2014 until It was killed by a driver who turned into me. I absolutely loved that bike. I made some modifications that made it better for me- Narrower bars, rearsets, bikini fairing, tire hugger, heated grips, bar end mirrors. I wish mine had cruise control and a real rear fender, but I lived without that. The upside down forks and brushed aluminum tank were standouts and it was a more deluxe model than the scrambler . I did not have any problem with handlebar buzziness. It had 14k miles on it when it was hit. I could have gotten it repaired easily but I didn't want to look at a salvage title.

The 1170 oilhead is one of the most reliable and durable motors of all time, it's easy to maintain, the bike looks great, it goes, stops and handles very well, it's highly customizable - hence it's often preferred over the excellent cheaper bikes you mentioned (except the Duke Scrambler which just isn't good enough quality-wise). Your anti-BMW bias is always good for a laugh. I like your honesty.
