English was once as easy to read as Hindi or Japanese. Problem is we haven't updated our spelling in 600 years. You have to keep updating your spelling every once in a while to keep it consistent with your spoken language. Which is very hard to do in such a pluricentric language as English. Arabic has the same problem. So does Tibetan too actually
