I don't care if it's a siege battle or a pitch battle, if it's 20 minutes long or an hour long, if it's very close or if a team wins by a huge margin, as long as it's Rome 2

Syracuse played so odd but incredibly effective in forcing the attackers to abandon attacking multiple angles. And with far less troops he held the attackers back.

He did pro move.He made em abandon siege towers, amassed their forces on just one side of walls and used wall towers to pepper em.If other players from defenders joined him they could've won way sooner.Many players just let attackers breach and fight in city streets instead commiting troops at walls.Thumbs up for this guy way of thinking.

love this, a good infantry sally well handled can paralyze attacking armies just as well as a cav sally, sometimes even better. it takes the attackers off balance and gets them thinking in a defensive mindset, and if they dont snap out of it that'll cost them the battle

For me, it was really the most interesting battle in your Channel. Some nasty strats in the start, great fight in the middle ant the finał result that couldnt be certain to the last second. Really great!

That defensive win. It looked like the attackers was going to take the win for a moment but the defenders pulled off a great last minute stand. That sally out on the flanks was meant to pincer the attackers the focus the center walls giving the defenders a fighting chance on the flanks. As the end game message reads *The best way to avoid being flanked is to stop the enemy flanking force from arriving.*

Great battle man

There is an advantage in numbers. I know it was the elite troops that pulled it out in the end, but bringing all those cheap units let the defenders be very aggressive. If that aggression had ever lead to successful attacks on the archers, they'd have won pretty easily, from how I saw the archers change momentum repeatedly. Plus aggressive defense is just more fun to watch.

Thracian Warriors are actually pretty cheap at 420 gold per unit, wouldn’t consider them elite

Responding to your question at 16:07, so I haven’t seen how this all goes. The sally forth might have been a good idea for two reasons 1) slows and confuses the assault, forcing the attackers into restricted avenues of attack and perhaps running out the clock 2) allows for a lot of time fighting beneath the wall where fire from wall top archers, artillery, and towers could be granted the time to rack up enough kills to turn the tide of the battle.

The first engagement of the sally out went great imo the second went terrible though the second engagement field placement kept the attackers from engaging that entire side of the wall so they wasnt to terrible

In regards to the slingers on the wall. When they're able to hit units in the sides or back, they will get a ton of kills, and I think this is what the defenders were going for.

If I had to guess. The defending force probably pushed out to hopefully push the attackers tighter together on the corner so the could hold less choke points.

I think the sally out helped his team out in the end. He was able to get decent kills and with the attackers waiting so long he was able to buy his team quiet a bit of time.

I think that aggressive play from Syracuse at the start put the attackers on the back foot from the start and they spent the rest of the game trying to cease back the initiative, but just couldn't wrestle it from the defenders

Units on walls tend to get shredded by concentrated archer fire. Even if the archers are grounded and outside the city. That’s why you need throw away units holding wall. Lure attacker in, then pepper them when they start overtaking the throw away units defending the wall.
