Wahoo Kickr (V6) vs Tacx Neo 2T Indoor Trainer Comparison and review

Спорт

The specifications and claims are similar, but is there a different feel in use?
In short - YES
Wahoo and Tacx are the two big indoor trainer manufacturers, with the latest Wahoo Kickr V6 and Tacx Neo 2T having almost exactly the same specifications, with one key being that both claim 1% power accuracy.
Buying either is a significant investment, so wish the opportunity to ride and test both back to back, I was able to see where the differences are, and if there is a clear winner.
Through the winter months riding indoors is a big part of my training routine, and having a good training system, and a good indoor trainer is key to being able to train well.
NOTICE & UPDATE:
FTP (Functional Threshold Power) is only directly comparable to the same device and in the same circumstances. The Wahoo felt slightly easier when riding, but this may have been due to the way it smooths the power compared to the Tacx, or the power figure comparison versus the actual power produced.
Since filming and using the Kickr V6 more I did a Half-Monty test (FTP test) and saw a significant 20 watt increase in FTP, and 10 watt increase in MAP (5 minute power). This may simply be increased fitness in the 4 weeks since the previous test, but I believe at least some element is due to the device measurements.

Great review, thank you! Love the power comparison comment, I've ridden both and the Neo feels slightly harder, I put it down to the flywheel technology, with a physical flywheel you always get some intertia, not sure which is more accurate/correct. I did the same workout on both with HR, for the same intervals my HR was lower on the Kickr, especially for threshold or above intensity, 3-10% lower which if indoor racing could be significant.....I have a Neo and love it regardless, it also gives me an excuse not to win races. Did you record HR for the workouts to compare if they were the same for the same intervals?

I did, but heart rate is too variable in this circumstance to be able to create a test that you can pull anything genuine from it, and I find simply going off feel is better.

This is the comparison video that I am looking for :) . Thanks. I don't use erg mode. All I am looking for is smooth pedalling feedback and realistic transitions on incline changes. Which one do you think is more realistic in simulation mode?

Both are smooth, but the Wahoo is the smoothest of the two.

But if on Zwift, etc. Neo has road feel for cobbles, etc and downhill motor to simulate freewheeling which does help the immersiveness

Thanks for the review, do you get the same workout on elevation as being on a normal climb?

The workout is based on power, and as they are smart trainers it is the power the software gives as a resistance. So you won't get any genuine climbing replication, but they are the best in terms of replicating feel.
