Most Ulama that go through dars e nizami system (or the darul uloom system) have to learn urdu as there is a lot of literature in urdu thanks to the rich indian muslim heritage we have. My friend is burmese and he can speak fluent urdu too. It was really so amusing to hear completely fluent urdu and arabic from him especially since he was my friend from before he started studying. So I remember him jokingly saying urdu words to us in broken urdu once upon a time.

@@all_islamic0592 yes he is an indian. Menk was born on 27 June 1975 in Salisbury to Gujarati Indian Muslim parents from the Bharuchi Vohra Patel community. He is the son of Maulana Musa Ibrahim Menk, a Muslim preacher in Zimbabwe.

I'm from india and I'm following Mufti from 5, 6 years and I love him very dearly, didn't know his parents were from Gujarat, plus Urdu, I'm completely surprised
My smile never faded, not even for a second, throughout the whole session. I have always heard Mufti Menk's speeches and interviews in English but hearing him speak the Urdu language pleased me in such a way I can not explain. I tried in the past to get her to listen to his stories of the prophet but since English isn’t her language she gave up a lot of the times so it was sad for me not to be able to share him with her. That the Mufti knew Urdu wasn't a surprise, but his command over it and it's vocabulary was !!! It goes to show the correct understanding the Mufti's father had/has that the three main languages in which almost all of Islam's literature is in are Arabic, Urdu and Farsi, and I guess knowing at least one of these is essential for any kind of serious study of Islam.
The way he answered every question so humbly, MashaAllah. Best things to learn in these 43 minutes. May Allah give long and healthy life to Mufti Menk, aamen

For the first time when I listened him speaking Urdu, Suddenly he felt like my neighbour. He also sounds wiser in Urdu. My uncle also was a teacher in Zimbabwe for 8 years. He is Bangladeshi, studied in Pakistan and now lives in London.
Great interview! Kudos to Mufti Menk for having such a great level of proficiency in Urdu, even better than what today's youth can converse in! It's commendable that Mufti Menk rushed to help Pakistanis in distress. Would love to have him visit Pakistan for Da'wa as well.

All 40 and an older lot know to speak it fluently but the 30 and under new generation don't know we understand it though because of Bollywood and growing up in London where there is much south Asian diversity. I’ve always known that he is a Gujrati Indian from Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 Ma sha Allah ❤ his Urdu is very very good, because of him studying in Darul Aloom in India

Gujrati Muslims are propagators of deen,,,they settled anywhere, first they like to establish a Madrasa there....the greatest gujrati islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmed deedat too migrated from gujrat to southern part of Africa...they are the chosen ones.

@@maryam._mirza He also studied in India for some time. You need to learn Urdu to study, cause many books he studied are written in Urdu. Islam related books are mostly written in Arabic, Fersi and Urdu.
