As a Brit, wire nuts are such a weird thing for me. Swear by Wagos, especially the 221 range. And even then, regular connector blocks (chock blocks) seem way more convenient than a wire nut.

I work at a fish camp directly on a salt water river. Five years ago Hurricane Irma flooded and nearly destroyed our bait shop. The shop was electrical rehab in the 70s. Mind you it was directly on and over a salt water river. I dismantled much of the electrical before trying to repair after the storm. All the connections were twisted with wire nuts. All the connections were still in perfect working condition almost 50 years later on a salt water river open shop with no ac or heat and bait tanks spraying salt water 24/7 365. 50 years of expansion and contraction and a salty high humidity environment. I’m not sure if wagos would hold up like that or not but I know twisted and wire nuts did. So I’ll stick with twisted with a nut.

well here's the problem. twisted wire nuts have been around for a long time. I've had quite a few wire nuts have to be changed because the wire tarnishes and the connection is lost and or arcs which heats up the wire nut and makes it brittle. the push ones haven't been around long enough for me to find a bad one so it's hard to make that determination.

Adding to any UK comments - our regs here are a lot more stringent and allowing a company to make a terminal that is foolproof and takes the edge out of termination issues and the liability of cause coming down to that connection issue, the time it saves and the reliability of getting a nice clean connection every time with a visibility aspect of almost a hundred percent of your work, they are exceptional.

Wago and MK teamed up to make a 3 terminal, 3 leg (L+N+E/G) double socket.. I believe they teamed up... Either way, it exists! , having clamp terminals I find much more appealing than a screw. Would certainly be very good use case in fused terminals for appliances requiring multi strand flex - though, bootlace ferrules are the problem solver for that ATM for cheapness so... However you look at it, a clamp terminals, that can encompass the entire surface area of the Conductor, is the best. I understand hooks and loops, they work, they provide good termination, with screws in every scenario but the technicality of getting It right - there is more to go wrong or can go wrong. Less steps to a successful connection is a more reliable connection. As long as the interconnects are more less prone to error of implementation. Same can be said setting up a home network. If your really into termination and the hardware side of things, there's a brochure of all the industrial (and some domestic) bits n bobs weidmuller (related, but not on topic) does... That was a mind bending 134 page document... From what I know, the Germans, as per usual, are never quite happy that perfection is actually perfection Garbled comments over. Happy wiring

IMO only Wago for lighting especially if stranded wire. I prefer Wago for most everything else too but wire nuts ok too as long as wires are twisted together, trimmed properly, and taped to avoid failures in tight spaces. I sometimes will also tape Wago if wires are crammed in a tight space since i feel the arm can be accidentally lifted up with heavier gauges of wire.

The one sticking point I have with WAGOs is that there is significantly less contact area compared to a twisted wire which makes me doubt it’s current carrying capability. I would have no problem using them in low voltage/ low current applications, but for 120VAC, I’ll stick to the wire nuts. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great product but it has its limitations. 👍

Besides the point in the video it wasn't even the good kind of wagos that he used because I would be OK with that. it was the Push and stick style instead of the much better lever nut wagos. And that my friend is a discouraged Method of electrical connection here in North America! There are plenty of switches and outlets on the market, more so in the past that you just shove the wire in and that's all and those eventually fail or work their way loose. See you're forgetting we're talking about 2 different countries. you know what else has been tested to regulation... twisting wire nuts! Or else we wouldn't be using them anymore! you're speaking of your regulation which is fine, but you gotta remember where the target audience is and I don't believe the video originated in Europe. but maybe it did and you're right. And by all means go ahead and judge Sparky's if you will, as rough for using wire nuts, but the fact of the matter is it bites into the wire holds them solid and are a 100 times thicker and more protective than thin vinyl electrical tape. So let's not even compare that. I mean my house was constructed in 1940 and when I went through and changed all of the wall outlets guess what was still holding nice and tight?? that's right it was wire nuts! just because some people don't install them correctly doesn't mean we should encourage them by coming up with a more stupid proof connector! I didn’t even know there was other splicing methods used to be honest. It works, and as long as you twist your wires properly there should be no problems with loose connections, or dropping a neutral. Also wagos are $10 for 12 of them. I can get a 500 pack of Ideal Twister wire nuts for $25. That’s more splices than I’d need to make in an entire job. You might use a 12 pack of wagos in 2-4 boxes depending on what you’re doing. The ONLY way a wire nut can be safe and strong is when using solid conductor, heavily pretwisted as shown in this video, which is a LOT of work. That CANNOT be done by hand except with fine wire gauges. BOTH sides must be held with a tool, making it very cumbersome. Wago connectors are fast, strong, reusable, don't damage your wire, and are rated up to the maximum current for which your wire is rated.

However, taking into consideration the existing environmental factors such as; temperature fluctuations, humidity, salinity, etc. Both will eventually fail. But I'll throw my hat in the ring and say that, with the *obvious* mechanical advantage, wire nuts will forever hold up a whole lot better than some little dinky pressure connector.

The comments section answered this for you. Wago every time. Homeowners who know no better twist wires! European EN standards do not accept twisting of conductors before insertion into terminals due to stretching of the conductor therefore reducing cross section, work hardening the base of the twist and being difficult to cleanly separate for testing without cutting (no good for short wires) or unravelling that mess. Wago is a smart, clean, maintenance free connection that doesn't leave a big open gap you can get a screwdriver into, practically a finger! Not safe. Old crappy method. Move on America!
