This orchestra sounds great on everything. Frankfurt .
Wunderbar!! Vielen Dank für upload
Frankfurt always good, well, presented, good recording.
the most perfect overture of all time - well done. Beethoven's Egmont is close, but Wagner's Rienzi tops them all.
Che meraviglia
Wagner war seiner Zeit vorraus. Tolle Interpretation eines ebenso tollen Orchesters.
Excellent. He has command of a significant repertoire. Wish we had him here in Pittsburgh. One of the best.

Bona combinació: Wagner i Paavo Järvi.
I bet when this first premiered it caused a storm, there are pure headbanging parts in this movement. Wagner was the punk rock star of the day I suspect. Absolutely brilliant.
A comparably soft, but very well defined approach. I like it!
un orchestre de flamboyance,admiration totale

Wagner - Topp Musik

One thing I can't understand. Wagner clearly prescribes two extremely important instruments in the score - serpent and ophiclade. Nowhere does it say contrabassoon and bass tuba. Both instruments are still produced today and there are good performers for them. Why do the conductors miss this fact and not try to reproduce the original instrumentation of this ingenious composer ?!

If the orchestra could afford to hire those players, I bet they would.

Not every orchestra has the musicians who can play these instruments. Ophecleide and serpent are rare instruments

Would you not agree that this overture has a certain Italian flavor to it? Maybe think of Rossini that comes to mine.

+Hugh Lusignan In his very early works Wagner couldn´t deny the influence Italian music had on him, especially Spontini´s. But when you´re an artist you will always be influenced by the works of others and find your own way when you don´t want to stay a plagiarist.

Rossini can not even imagine this harmony and orchestral structure! His music is very naive compared to Wagner!

Rienzi was Italian so I would expect that.

ANCIENT < PLEASE
Unser deutscher Richard Wagner!
interesting research topic: how do composers envision Roman antiquity.
Very competent performance but lacking the dynamic fire that I prefer for this piece.

I think it is very easy to go over the top with a piece like this. And if you go more pronounces, many people will say it was too much. Thus, a compromise like this if it is live, is a better approach. For recordings, you may experiment more.

@@punk3900 Perhaps, but I find this performance a bit too tame for a piece with the march sections and coda scored by Wagner to be played strongly fortissimo.
Χ
It sounds a little too academic to my ears, lacking fire and emotion. I don´t go for such slow interpretations.
