WAGE WAR - What Would They Sound Like In Standard Tuning? (DROP F RIFFS Played In Standard E)
Музыка
It's an age old question in the metal world, especially as modern metal bands gravitate towards lower and lower tunings - are those riffs good, or do they just sound heavy because they're played so low? Well, wonder no more - here are 10 of Wage War's heaviest riffs, originally played as low as drop F, translated to standard E. What do you think?

Honestly, it still sounds great in standard tuning. The only thing that stood out was the third phrase ("Deadweight") being played on the lower strings in the upper 12th fret area, it definitely is a riff that sounds GREAT in lower tunings but doesn't translate to standard. 9 out of 10 I would listen to a Wage War album played in standard.

Honestly, Low (7th riff) was also a little weird sounding.
damn this tuned up to E standard sounds pretty much exactly like 80s thrash metal
Idk man I'm 50/50 with it. Some just sound Badass regardless. But some you can tell were directly made to sound better with lower tuning.

Definitely! Can't discount the heaviness factor especially on the simpler grooves
Man again your playing is perfect, you have a killer tone, a great video concept and a good video quality ! You killed it ! Btw I really like those riff in standard to me it sounds more agressiv and post-hardcory !

Yes love those!
Awesome video, man. The lower tunings do make difference and as someone already said in the comments it's 50/50 - some riffs sound badass in E standard, but some became hollow, I guess P.s. gonna re-listen to the whole WW discography now
Damn now I wanna learn these songs on guitar
Stitch absolutely kills it for me, it used to be about suffering, now it screams psychotic and alarming. You did this song real justice
To be honest, your video made me seriously reconsider buying another guitar just for drop tuning. I’m a beginner and was so impressed with the way these songs sounded in standard tuning, I really don’t want to spend $$$ on another guitar and drop tune strings just to play stuff at home in my free time. Maybe a serious musician, but I’m happy with your example. Thank you for doing this! It was extremely helpful. I’d rather use an EQ and settings in my Boss Katana to get a darker sound in standard tuning.

Can definitely get some good/heavy sounds without tuning too far down! Good luck

could always get a baritone 6 string like me and get those lower tunings without losing the ability to play like going to a 7 string
This is pretty sweet
How do i "haha" react hahahah! Dope bro
The river sounds like Egyptian metal but I like it a lot plz make it a full cover plz dude.
Would love to see how their newer albums do with this
Should of done a comparison of tunings for people who arent exactly familiar with all the songs, anyway good jub bud!

Thanks! Hmm that's a good idea, might do that for the next one
Being that they play in a drop tuning would of cool to do drop D , probably would have sounded awesome. Either way sounded good and honestly I have challenged myself to write in standard E and drop D again to dial in my own sound again.
I'm not too familiar with WW songs, so I'm curious whether you played the riffs exactly the same (same fret/string) or u adjusted where they're played to match the notes of the original riffs in a different tuning? Great playing!

Thanks! I adjusted frets for some so it would be same notes (moved up to key of E)
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Well… that was heavy. And TIGHT.
To me, half of what makes a song "heavy" is the energy, not just the tuning. Example: Laid to Rest by Lamb of God. That song is in drop D, but it's a head banger all day.
Still sounds pretty metal to me. Dropping the tuning does have a "hardening" effect to the sound though - some of the riffs sounded like they were 80s rockified because of the tuning...YUCK!!!
I mean zeros are still zeros, but they lost their bite and chunk
Takes out any aggression it had before lmao
Hey, can someone answer me, what the bassist does in this situation? I've watched videos of basses droptuned to F0 and it sounds fucking stupid. Anyone know what the bassist does in wage war? plays in standard or drops it

I’m almost positive he goes down the octave even for the low f stuff. It’s more done to just provide the low rumble, but solo bass in anything lower than f# is almost incomprehensible to me.
I think that sound equally heavy because E standard is tighter than low tuning, obviously you can use harder strings on low tuning to overcome the problem
Some sound a little awkward, but Who I Am and 21 absolutely slap
Gravity is one of the songs that definitely sounds better tuned lower
If it still makes you headbang in standard tuning it's heavy. Wage War passed.
It sounds great, just needs a fatter body of sound one octave lower to back it up, a bass? I think that's what it's called.
Звучит как lamb of god
I think Low is better in this tuning honestly. It doesn’t sound like a ripoff of Architects anymore. Lol

More like 8 bit tough xD
The riffs sound good, but so 2k
I think this a great example of what metalcore is. The word means metallic hardcore, meaning it’s metal influenced hardcore. When you take away the downtuned guitars and aggressive vocals (excluding the cleans) and just look at the music, it’s very clearly more hardcore than it is metal. I’m not a huge hardcore fan but I actually like the way the songs sound in standard more than the actual tuning. It feels more honest. You touch on this in the beginning but heavy is in the player and it seems like a lot of metalcore bands are pretenders. You can’t just downtune guitars, add some death metal growls in and call yourself of a metal band. I think that’s my biggest problem with metalcore as a whole.
Wage War is Meh in my opinion. Mostly cuz of the vocals but the music is meh as well.
