Quick note. I'm including all of this info because when I was starting out, I found it really difficult to figure out what gear to use, so I'm hoping if there's anyone looking to set up for KZread, this might help. If you need more help just email me, kev at coffeeblog.co.uk - if I don't know the answer I'll ask the professionals.
I'm listing the current setup first that the pros are using, and then my original more budget setup.

Hey Kev, thanks for this. I've had my Picopresso for around a year and despite never having preheated it I've always been satisfied with the results. Just tried preheating and the difference with the Australian Skybury Beans I'm using currently is significant

Hi I just purchased this yesterday with the Wacaco Exagrinder, I've watched a few videos on it, your video I followed closely, First shot chocked, Second was perfect and one of the better Espresso shots I've tasted. I have on order your Chocolate brownie blend so will be trying that soon. I also purchased the Wacaco Pipamoka for when I'm out, I often visit Nature Reserves and cannot use a stove so only water from a flask, the Wacaco pipamoka is more for long coffee using a French press grind.

Wifey bought this for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. I’ve used it with your Chocolate Brownie beans too and got great results from it. So glad you mention the preheat. Lots of other videos out there and although some mention it, they don’t stress it enough. It’s possibly the most important thing about using it. I’m going to try the Custard Cream in it next. Cheers, Kev 😀👍

It's a great little thing isn't it, yeah you really do have to pre heat it well, I think as long as you're aware of that, it's ace. Glad you're enjoying the chocolate brownie blend, love that stuff! Custard cream is great too but it's a light roast that one, a bit more challenging, pre-heating and working fast to not let it all cool down too much will be even more important. Cheers, Kev.

@@Coffee_Kev I ran out of coffee so bought some Starbucks dark roast espresso. Yeah, so I’ve found out I’m not a dark roast person 😄 I’m just waiting for the Custard Cream beans to arrive, but the dark roast beans are going in the compost bin! Gippin!

So i modified it with a battery powered heater (i'm traveling 320 days a year in countries from 220 to 110 v and bringing a adapter is just to much work but it improved it alot. only make sure you get something wrapped around it (i let a local repairshop make a thick insulation cover to keep the heat in and my hands cool) and prevent it to start boiling as it really can not handle that ;)

@@Coffee_Kev Just don't pump too quickly ... Also Wacaco (and others) sell a sleeve to insulate your hands from the heat, as they can get very hot in use. Oh and your coffee works really well with it too ;-)

I've heard of the better performance with IMS basket, but what actually makes it better? I find it hard to believe a basket that doesn't fit well, and is just a holder for coffee, can make any difference?? Does it change the flavour? Thanks for any info you have!

@@foxtrotwhisky4061 the biggest difference is the side of the basket. The one comes with it isn’t straight wall. So the IMS 18g basket works way better(despite I got a 20g one but a bit too long)

How much better is the result when compared to AeroPress? I know its not a good comparison since AeroPress doesn't make espresso with crema, but still is it worth investing about 2 times the cost of an AeroPress? (I already have an AeroPress btw)

Haha, actually Josh is way better at this stuff than I am, he's a real Barista, I just play one on KZread ;-). It's actually really straightforward, as long as you've got a capable grinder and as long as you pay attention to the preheating and then work quick enough while it's not, I think it's about as good a shot you're going to get from a travel espresso maker. Cheers, Kev.
