A Sikh man is most recognizable by his turban. After going through the Amrit Ceremony of initiation, Sikh men are required to grow their hair long (called Kes). In the Sikh faith, the body is considered a precious and holy gift from God. Any change or alteration to the body is forbidden. The hair, being an extension of the body, is to be wrapped in a turban for men and a chiffon for women.
Many people from outside of the community are typically curious about a Sikh man's long hair under his turban.
