In our videos related to 家紋 Kamon family crests, there were some people telling us that our content is inappropriate because this 卍 crest appeared in one scene. But this mark is very different from what some people misunderstand it to be.
If you take a closer look at it, you can see that it is facing the other way around compared to the mark which is considered to be inappropriate.
In Japanese, this is read 卍 Manji, and it is an official Kanji character that represents omen or sign of good fortune in Buddhist terminology.
You can find this mark in various places in Japan…
1. On Buddhist temples, statues, banners, gongs, etc.
2. A map symbol for temples
3. Kamon family crests and family names
By the way, there are actually multiple Kamon crests that uses 卍, so you can understand how familiar Japanese people were with this mark from ancient times.

There is no intention of denying other theories and cultural aspects

The title can also be: "Westerners learn that other cultures exists."
Didn't know my grandpa was part of the buddhist army
I love it how even though he didn’t have to he informed everyone that that crest isn’t THAT symbol.
That odd group that sits in the corner at school has this for a tattoo! They're always quiet. Now I know they're just meditating.
I have to admit, I did a double take the first time I saw it in a Japanese cemetery. Then I remembered, oh, it's an ancient symbol used by many cultures. This man who died in 1898 never even heard of the Nazis.
Amazing how ignorant people can be. In the US there is the same symbol used by Native Americans. Thanks for informing the public.
Hindu people are also baffled people reel in horror, given how it's a prevalent symbol in Hinduism as well.
Thank you! I wish more people were educated about this! You always explain things so well for everyone 😊
Buddhism and Hinduism (and Jainism) used this symbol. It spread westward in Europe and Africa and people loved it until the “inappropriate group” used their version
As a Hindu who believes in Dharma. I respect you for making this video.
I'm a Buddhist, and I wear a pendent that has this symbol at the back. The amount of times that people who don't know Buddhism have accused me of being a Nazi- ヽ(`⌒´)ノ
“I drew this on my notebook and I got expelled from my school.”
The Nazi~ basically reversed the symbol and made it tilted. I interpreted it as a reverse of everything the original symbol represents
Ohhh, so that's why the

Best informative short I have seen in a while. It's sad that something so innocent got turned into something dangerously inappropriate here in the West because of Hitler during WW2.
