    When I've listened to these speakers side by side in person the bass output sounds about the same. I honestly don't hear less bass in the T9. They both have plenty of bass to my ears. However the difference in the mids and highs is extremely noticeable. The T9 sounds much better to my ears which is why I'll take the T9 all day over the X10 in terms of overall sound quality. The only reason to get the X10 over the T9 is for the IPX rating in my opinion.

    These are interesting for sure. As I mentioned I put mine on the floor on either side of my office chair about 2' or 3' away. One is angled up about 30 degrees but doesn't have to be. I was in the center of the stereo field and the wave guide bring the sound up to my ears on each side really well. It's a pleasant sound since the brightness is subdued being off axis vertically. The low rear base reflects off the floor and is perfectly balanced. One speaker is about 3' from the wall. Plenty of low base happening. I own HiFi systems and this sounds on par in this particular arrangement. Placement is everything. Important to note that even rear ported high end speakers sound bland in the middle of the room.

    I ordered the W-King T9-2, and it arrived from Amazon today. After playing around, turning it on getting familiar with the controls, it took a bit of time to get it to connect by bluetooth with the on off button, but I got. I was right over the speaker and I thought " aw man this isn't that great!" But then moved to my lounge chair and the sound was much better. Listening indoors works better on Outdoor mode, everything sounds clearer, bass treble mids. Yes it's a well balanced sound. Worked great with folk and country, and also worked good with some acoustic Pear Jam "Off He Goes". Then I connected the 3.5mm cord to.the TV to see how it works there. The results are not great. Although it makes the sound louder, the lows highs and midst are a little muddy. It's merely serviceable. Overall it's a good speaker for people who don't like Hip Hop or dance music but it's great for country, folk, rock n roll, rock music.

    The reason for the amazing broad sound stage as you mentioned, besides dual drivers, are the doubly stacked wave guides. It sounds good off axis because of this. I saw this on my JBL 570 woofers. The inner wave guide is the angled woofer enclosure all around but then on top of that are the semi-circular (in profile) LED lights. This was likely a compounded accidental improvement but perhaps the designers planned it originally. Whichever it was they achieved a fantastic design. I just measured the inner wave guide as 3/8" tall with the 1/4" LED ring above that. That's a total of 5/8" of combined wave guide height. It probably does help to get that heavy metal screen out of the way. When you look at the speaker profile you think, wow are those drivers recessed way on back into the enclosure. JBL is the master of wave guides and they do this too on the Stage series speakers. Conversely the tweeters aren't recessed at all but actually sit out front of the LED surface. They have a tiny wave guide as part of their construction. They dang thing just sounds so good, crystal clear and captivating. I DO NOT blast mine at high volumes which probably messes up the tone somewhat however that was before transforming them back when they were inside of just plastic. My D9s I do play at maximum because they come alive.

    There's no denying the value of the T9. If I had to choose between these two it would be my choice as well. That being said, I still think the motion boom is the most well rounded. It's fully ipx7, lighter than either of these, and has the ability to sound better musically after eq (except for, debatably, the T9). The W kings only make sense to me if absolute volume is what you're looking for and the boom isn't doing it for you. My preference is 2 booms, though 😝. Awesome review, Alan! 😁👌👍

  • @_-Z-

    @_-Z-

    @Jeff DaChef Point taken, but tweeters do not automatically make a speaker better. There are many speakers with tweeters which are not implemented correctly. Loudness is great for party settings but there is usually a sacrifice in sound quality unless you're paying for a high end option like mini rigs. The boom and the T9 both have their strengths and weaknesses. I think the T9 is the best speaker by W king to date but no ip rating is a deal breaker for me. For my preference, 2 motion booms are best. Similar loudness can be achieved as 1 T9 except I have more peace of mind with an ip rating.

    Alan, question, as a solution for purchasing a JBL boombox, due to high price, would the x-10 be a good and powerful enough replacement for out side listening. Say at a soccer” Futbol “ practice for boys , where the the voice volume is a little loud? I’d go with the t-9 but I’d need a weatherproof option.

    I found this interesting which is "axis" orientation. A head on listen of the T9 can be slightly harsh or very forward depending on volume. Then I moved my listening position and it got better or smoother sounding. Perhaps an improved blending of the drivers. I think their ring of fire LED inadvertently made them have a wave guide effect which really broaden the sound stage. JBL is the master of wave guides like on the 570 Studio series that I just bought. All drivers have a wave guide on this series. The rolled off molded edges on the T9 makes it even better for unwanted reflections etc. Remove the metal screen for even better voicing. Stuff the interior by loading it with dampening material and it gets even better. IF you can access the first reviewer on Amazon US those are photos of my FrankenKing project.

    I've seen some of your reviews now and I can tell you're really passionated. In addition to the passion, you also provide a lot of good information that is missing in other reviews. You deserve way more views! I'm still looking for a good small speaker. I've had the Sony XB10 (very nice compact but sound is not really good), wonderboom 2 (lacks bass, too bright, maybe I had a faulty one because it gets a lot of good reviews but I don't like it and it is also a little bit too big for me), B&O A1 (nice deep bass, but has no punch bass and also can't get loud like you said and the battery is not really that good) and I tested the new B&O Explore (very, very bad for a 2021 speaker). Are there any other new small speakers like these with better/louder sound then the A1 with also usb-c, waterproof and with good/better battery life?
