That is my biggest criticism of polyphony, it is a beautiful form of classical music and great for concert, however I don't think it should be used in the Liturgy because it does not derive itself from antiquity like chant does - and it also doesn't encourage correct pronunciation of the Latin (or other ancient language depending of the rite).

I have no such objection myself. Let beautiful sacred music be sung! Of course people of different first languages will pronounce the Latin a little differently from one another. What matters is the beauty of the music, and the piety which it inspires.

Matheus Araujo Matos It is a great shame that out of its cultural budget, the EU could not have found the funds to promote a standardised but more importantly, correct pronunciation of Latin across the continent. Many of the current national pronunciations are jarring and unpleasant elsewhere (for example German pronunciation to English speakers, and ‘English’ - actually Italanised English - pronunciation to German speakers), and are often based more on a mixture of ignorance and tradition, rather than knowledge and understanding.

Pas du tout et je ne vois pas en quoi c'est une prononciation allemande. En France nous avons eu la même, du moins pour ceux qui ont connu la messe en latin. Les latinistes aujourd'hui apprennent une prononciation "restituée"...Pas sûr que c'était celle du temps de Mozart.

Tu ad dexteram Dei sedes, in gloria Patris. Iudex crederis esse venturus. Te ergo quaesumus, tuis famulis subveni: quos pretioso sanguine redemisti. Aeterna fac cum sanctis tuis in gloria numerari. "Salvum fac populum tuum, Domine, et benedic hereditati tuae. Et rege eos, et extolle illos usque in aeternum. Per singulos dies benedicimus te; Et laudamus Nomen tuum in saeculum, et in saeculum saeculi. Dignare, Domine, die isto sine peccato nos custodire. Miserere nostri Domine, miserere nostri. Fiat misericordia tua, Domine, super nos, quemadmodum speravimus in te. In te, Domine, speravi: non confundar in aeternum."

In te Domine speravi, non confundar in aeternum!
very nice. Shame they chose not to pronounce 'coeli' the correct Ecclesiastical Latin way though.

Das Kinderspiel I know but in modern times when they use period tuning they use 432 for Mozart sometimes
The pronunciation of Latin is a bit precarious in the piece parts .

They are using Germanized Latin, pronouncing the Latin words as if they were German. This is common in Germany even today.

It's called period performance and it messes up people with perfect pitch by lowering A by a semitone
@conorlyons4154

It is in C Major. The orchestra is playing at Baroque pitch, which is a half step lower than modern pitch: A=415, not 440.
Er... I like more Haydn and Charpentier's settings for this hymn.

Yes, but that doesn’t mean this one is bad. I agree Charpentier’s is the best. Not to forget the original chant.

But Mozart copied M. Haydn´s version of the TE DEUM in formal aspects. And which of J. Haydn´s versions of the TE DEUM do you prefer?

@@dirkbrodling4230 The one dedicated to Maria Theresia.
Mozart was a genius of course, but all his works are not always perfect as well as it is so in miscellaneous fields by other geniuses.
