I was privileged to hear Jean Pierre Rampal perform live with the Chicago symphony back in 1970 (I believe) while in college. We were invited backstage for introductions along with our flute professor who had gone to Northwestern for undergrad & grad school so he knew the principal flutist of the symphony. It was one of the highlights of my musical life. In addition to this gentleman being one of the greatest flutists of all time he was also so kind to us college kids. He took his time with us & answered all questions as if we were important. To this day (I am now 71 years old) I love his sound better than any other flutist. He makes the flute speak the lines & one doesn't soon forget a performance of his. Bravo!

Nice anecdote... I also studied flute for a few years and for me it will always be the best. As he said, the first thing of all is the sound, you have to build the technique through it. I don't know if any flute will ever sound better. As someone says later, perhaps in this concert he is already in his decline but even so it is a good example of what was said.

Hey Stefano, where did you get the video? I'm working for a film production company and we want to license this concert for one of our documentary projects. Any guess who has rights on it? Do you know which TV station recorded it? Many Thanks, Elias
I thank you and I apologize. I correct immediately.

I listened Rampal several times. I have nevermore listened to such a beautiful sound from a flute.
