I wish I had watched your video before attempting to remove my rear brake drum! I didn't know how to release the handbrake adjuster and gave up after several hours yesterday. I'm going to give it another go today. Thanks for posting.👍

Very much the same set up as my Polo. I replaced the shoes, drums and hydraulic brake cylinders a while ago.

Useful, thanks. Would like to have seen you actually releasing the adjuster. Ive done one on my daughter's citigo but I'm having a job finding the one on the other side 😂

Unfortunately the video missed out some important steps such as: Can the shoes be removed and replaced without taking out the slave cylinder or the hub to give space? What is the best way to remove/replace the handbrake cable end?

Good video. Thanks for explaining slowly and clearly. But if you can also explain about the hand break how it was instead before and after it will more easier to do on own

Hi The hand brake should adjust itself when the drum is refitted. If not there is an adjuster nut under the plastic brake lever cover.

When the jack is fully lowered the drum is still 6” off the ground so no need for a stand

Personally I always place an axle stand underneath a vehicle even when I'm not crawling underneath it because a hand, arm or neck could take a fair old wack or get caught between the jack and a component on the vehicle. Always be safe than sorry, it's just not worth the risk in my opinion.

Yes I have a handy old screw type bottle jack which can be very useful to pop under beside the hydraulic one. At the vey least I use another old full bodied scissors type jack as backup. I also find foldable caravan wheel chocks are great i 'tensioned' in place fore & aft of a wheel
