You seem a decent enough chap, and that'll be why you're even having these feelings of guilt in the first place. So there's no doubt you'll refund him, minus what you're out of pocket etc and then you can sleep soundly at night knowing you've done the right thing. It might not seem it sometimes, but there's more of us decent folk left than we sometimes realise, and just because someone doesn't treat us right, doesn't mean we will do the same back to them 👍

totally agree with you. I've never had a bad sale for that much money but whenever i have needed ebay to step in they have and its always been dealt with quickly. he knew what he was doing and clearly thought you would just go away.

Totally agree with u buddy, I would of done the exactly the same and give him the chance to rectify. I think guilt would get the better of me if I kept the money but would definitely use it to buy the missing parts and give the rest back. I bought an early T5 passenger seat last year with plastics and seat belt missing for £180, by the time I bought genuine seat covers to match plus plastics and seat belt, all genuine it cost me just shy of £400 , I tried everywhere for the parts but nothing available so I ended up going to TPS 🤷🏻

Personally after getting a refund I would tell him he has 3 weeks to get them picked up, as you had no intention to get something for nothing but after that time will assume he doesn’t want them back and you will keep and fix them . That way you have given him the option of taking them back and if he doesn’t they are yours, you have been honest and your mind is at rest . He should have detailed the parts that he knew were missing to avoid this. Different if he was selling on something then then it maybe sold as seen and it would be more on you to check, not that you shouldn’t anyway but it runs away with you sometimes 👍🏼

My view on anything second hand bought on eBay is how is it described by the seller. I had a similar experience with a damaged part which was not described as scratched and when I got back to the seller he said I should have examined the photo. I had another look and couldn’t see the scratches.

In my opinion, he had his chance for you to take a £70 hit and him pay £200... So I'd take the full cost of the parts to make the seats back to spec and send him the difference with all relevant receipts, I'd also copy ebay into what you have done... But that's just me! To me that's the most honest way 🤷🏻‍♂️

That’s looking good spi. Just got off the phone to him. Suggested exactly that plus £30 for 1 hours labour to collect parts and install. Even though I’m about 6 hours in now. Also said he’s buying me a coffee on the way. He didn’t apologise once. He said he wasn’t happy and thinks he could do better complaining to eBay. Honestly. Cannot understand.

So , you ( as a private buyer ) bought from a private buyer If the description ( both written and photographic) were the items mentioned/ described ? If they weren’t then you’ve made an assumption ( a dangerous thing ) , if you’d had any doubts if the parts were not included then you had ten days ( the auction length ) to raise any inquiries. So if they weren’t mentioned or photographed your situation is of your making not the sellers . As such he didn’t need to help However he’s then engaged with you over the missing buckles and seat backs . He probably shouldn’t have done that because he’s now offered to compensate and added another layer of complexity with his attitude and mindset On a practical level I’ll bet you’ll find your seat buckles are a common VAG part ( Google the part no from the schematic) you’ll probably find the buckle is off a mk8 Golf etc and so could it could reasonably by purchased second hand to mitigate the loss as it’d be fitted to these second hand seats Hope that’s not too offensive a definitive answer for you

Never offended. People saying I should have checked etc. which is fine. But these could have been picked up by a courier. I would have never been able to check. He’s sold them incomplete. Regardless. He offered to pay. Then didn’t. So it’s like admitting liability I guess. You’re right about the part. Think that’s what he found. A general part. But then did nothing about it. He’s not contacted me for 5 days. I’m just waiting 🤷🏼‍♂️

Sounds like you've given him plenty of opportunity to rectify. Perhaps it could of been avoided by checking photos, checking seats on collection. Do the right thing and give him the money back, minus your expenses to rectify the issue

When eBay or PayPal get involved to resolve your issue, it's bye bye seller. So keeping the seats and the refund is perfectly fine. You can repair and move on. I've had this with expensive exhausts couple of years back. Luckily bought via eBay and payed via PayPal. Never go without them on international trades.

I would be inclined to get the seats made whole deduct how much that cost less your petrol for picking them up as compensation and then send him the balance. You still have a bargain and the moral high ground and he isnt totally out of pocket. Plus if he then appeals what you have deducted is reasonable.

Bit fault on both sides, you should have checked the product before purchase, he should have advertised correctly and made good on your requests, take the cost of parts out of the refund and give the rest back. Take the whole thing as a learning curve forget about it and move on. Love the channel by the way keep it up.

they clearly show them missing he is right but if they dont show it and listed as "complete" or word to that effect you are right haha. If Ebay rules in your favour, its their decision. Would love to know the outcome.

As a seller on eBay myself for over 10years I always offer full refunds or replacement I’d look into he’s history to see if he has done anything similar in his feedback and decide then

Who sells seats with parts removed and not detailed in the description I feel he knew what he was doing. Take the refund and then allow him the opportunity to collect the seats at his experience with in a reasonable time or you will dispose of them at your local tip. Remember if you have not paid for them they are not yours. It's 10 out of 10 for you. Nice one mate.

Cheers mate. Many saying that he won’t be charged and it’s eBay’s money vmback guarantee. But can’t see that.

I would just go to the local car "smasher" and get some from a car that's going to be destroyed. I got a new door to my car that way, even a new passanger seat. And I have gotten all sorts of plastic pieces too, and they didn't care about getting payment for those, just the light, the door and those things.. And it was a fair price.

You should always check the pictures, but he should have had a clear advert. I.e. sold as per images. So a buyer would know exactly what they are getting. However how you handles it was apot on. I would give him money but only the price you paid minues your cost of buying the parts to make the seats as they should be. Also factor in a bit of fat for your time.

How many chances did he have to put it right.....losts he was more thank happy to leave you out of pocket. Right or wrong he had his chance didn't bother and now he's paying for it his loss your gain.

EBay always works well whenever there are any disputes. Personally it’s the seller’s own fault that a full refund has been issued. I’d give him back half of the money to cover your costs, time taken disputing and his lack of courtesy.

Not gonna lie… I’d take the money… use it to make the seats complete, then take some compensation however much you see fit and then send some back… perhaps like you say, £200. I’m not clued up on eBay but is the money coming from him or some sort of buyer protection insurance that pays it out?

@@urbanarkoverland ultimately we buy stuff in a shop we see it, can bring prices down if there are missing boxes or parts, instructions etc, buy online you go in blind, you have opportunity to return or they send out the missing bits etc, so with this, same thing, should be rectified, if he sent them to you, you wouldn’t have seen them.

Don't be to quick to send the seats or money back. I sold some golf alloys yeas ago, the guy collected them then a couple weeks later he said one was cracked - my argument was he collected them and inspected them and there was no crack (I had thoroughly cleaned and checked them and no damage at all) Ebay got involved and ended up refunding him, but it was ebay that funded that refund not me, as they decided we were both right in our own argument. So don't be suprised if the refund hasn't actually come from him. Wait and see if you get an angry message from him saying he has been forced to refund you before you make a decision on the matter. Then if your 100% certain he has lost put kaybe pay him the seat money minus belts plastics and time wasted. In fact if thats how they were in the pictures im pretty certain he wont have been charged. So id actually buy the bits you need for them and use the rest to buy some espensive light bar brackets 😂😂 JK but yeah, buy something else for the build

He’s in the wrong hands down, id take the refund and send him back the money less the cost of the parts and £50 for the hassle. Why would you compromise on the very thing that is going to save your life in the event of an accident? As you said if it wasn’t an issue to him then he could have bought knock offs for himself and sent you the originals. The further into it he got the further he kept digging.

EBay gave me a full refund. He phoned and said… seems eBay have refunded you. We didn’t want that. I will arrange a courier’. I told him that m, that is at my discretion (just to shake him up really) I offered him a refund of the refund minus the cost of the parts. He said… I’ll keep trying with eBay. Never heard from it again? I assume eBay refunded him too some how.

You probably have to be a decent person and give back the amount to reflect the position you would have been in had you bought the parts as originally priced from TPS. However this highlights just how much of a pain in the arse it is selling anything of value on eBay. In this case we can see it's you who have been reasonable.....but equally you could have been a scammer, and they are likely to still take your side. The crazy thing is, now you don't know what to do as if you give him some money back....eBay may then reverse the decision. Shame that they make it a lot harder to just turn up and pay cash😊. We had a customer buy a t5 seat for us to retrim for them. I think it came from Poland. It was an old shape seat with a new shape cover on it😮....we pointed out the completely different shapes and they had not noticed. Luckily we had a scrap seat and we managed to make a matching pair for them. Hope you get it sorted.

@@urbanarkoverland Never is dealing with people mate, it’s not about the F up, it’s about how decent they are and how they put it right, You couldn’t go and fit a bathroom and leave it leaking through a ceiling and tell them to fix it themselves 🤷‍♂️ I’d bet if the shoe was on the other foot he wouldn’t send you the money back 🤟

The liability is his as the seller - EBay Ts&Cs are explicit on this. He should have drawn attention to the fact parts were missing/removed in the listing. You’ve not received what you paid for, as EBay have reviewed and corroborated. You also tried to engineer a satisfactory solution to both parties, but he failed to engage with that - his fault. The fact that EBay will refund you the whole price paid isn’t for your conscience, it’s their policy that the seller agreed to. You should be able to sleep like a big, ginger bearded baby. Had this been a private sale, where you were given proper time to inspect the goods and negotiate a price based on the defects, there might have been less leeway morally if you found something you’d missed later. A lesson for the seller - a wise man one said “always read the fine print”, and in this case he failed to do this, and eBay have done what he agreed to.

You sound like you have eBay in your corner as you've done all you can according to them. Send him 50% of the money back and tell him if he wants the rest he arranges and pays for a courier to collect. Once that's done then refund the rest

There’s a bit of fault both sides tbf, I’d take the cost of parts out of it and send him over the balance. Yes he’d removed bits and should’ve been clearer in the description but you should’ve checked the photos better. He’s a bit of a 🍆🧀 (I see what you did there) but doesn’t deserve to be over a grand out of pocket.

Ye exactly. He def should of been upfront. People saying I should have checked. But I almost sent a courier. They wouldn’t have checked. Just assumed he was honest. And to be fair. He was all good with it. Until the cost. So if he wasn’t happy with the cost. Why would I be. 👍🏻

Not a good advert for anybody in this really. Id suggest refunding minus the parts, and id take this video down aswell to be honest. Chalk it up to experience on both sides and move on. Life is too short.

I reckon anyone looking at your channel won't want to see this if they are thinking about having a van done with you. They could think any issues and it'll be straight on KZread etc. It's only my opinion, but I don't think you need this video on your channel. It takes away from all the great videos you've done.

@@cazanddomboating9106 i disagree naturally. I’m not airing dirty laundry AS SUCH. I covered the guys name. He’s totally anonymous. It’s not a company or a business. It’s joe bloggs that has acted silly. This is t a dispute between work I have completed or a way a customer has interacted. This is more to show the dramas and downsides of buying online. Many comments have said that I should have thoroughly checked the seats before driving away. Probably a lot of truth in that. To add. I know the what I am going to do when the funds are cleared. And it’s that, that will show my true colours?

Well of course you do 😂. I'm only putting my take on it across, and it doesn't come across as a video about the pitfalls of buying online. It comes across as 'one man's win at all costs and don't tell me I'm wrong' buying online saga. Only my opinion of course. But if it's put me off, I'm sure it will others. All the best to you with the channel, I just think this is misstep.

@@cazanddomboating9106 I compromised many many times with the guy. Even offered to spend more my end to reduce the money I wanted reimbursing. The seller clearly thought if he sticks it out. Then I would run out of time to still have rights for a refund. He told me last Friday. That he would be in touch. It’s Tuesday. Had seats for a month that can’t use. And I was always still just trying trying trying. The more I think about it. It shows patience and Co operation on my part. No?

Welcome to buying second hand stuff off the Internet. The money you "saved" in not just buying new from a reputable source you've cost yourself in other way. Pocket the money and block the guy. You did your part. Even with the money you've made it's cost you 5 years of your life in stress. Your bright red just making a video.
