VW T4 Dashboard Loudspeaker Replacement

Replacement of the factory speakers with JVC/Kenwood CS-J410X units.
I tried a pair of Alpine SXE-1025S which looked very well made but they produced virtually no bass at all by virtue of the very stiff cone.
The JVC units have a much more compliant cone, similar to the original OEM speakers. They sound very similar and would be hard to beat given the price I paid, £12!
The JVC speakers are supplied with a pair of pre-crimped cables that you could splice onto the existing OEM wires. I opted for a pair of adapter cables (search for 'VW speaker adapter') which I bought from eBay for about £3.50.

The parish of my town has got a vw T4 and its speakers weren't used for somewhat like 30 years (it is from 1992, I think). If I install an head unit in it, how much probabilities to find myself with foam rotted and bad sounding speakers do I have? P.s. the van in question is mostly left outside of the oratory, whether the weather is sunny or raining.

There is a high chance that the foam is rotten.The foam in mine remained intact until the speaker cover was removed and foam surround was touched. It was then that it disintegrated. Why not just remove the covers from yours and have a feel of the foam surround? If it crumbles then order up a new pair of speakers.

what sort of adapter you used? What's called? I'm very bad with any form of diy so i wouldn't know how to look for it on ebay. Thanks

Just search for 'VW speaker adapter'. It has a rectangular plastic housing at one end and two spade receptacles at the other end. The cables are about 15cm long. Look at item# 363125043093 on ebay.co.uk for an example.

How to take off the old speakers? You don't have to introduce the speakers, just show everyone how to take off the old ones. Thanks.

There are no screws, you just pull the old speakers out, they are only held in using some sping clips.
