Thanks a lot for showing how to. Learned a lot of you cause you explain it quitly and clearly. My T4 is 26 years old and I bought it as new in Belgium. Best buy in lifetime. It's still going strong. Best regards from Finland.

Awesome. Love "straight to the point" videos. All questions answered in first 20 seconds. No front bumper back-story, no useless jokes. Thank you!

Top video mate, learned a lot more than I even expected, about to take the bumper off (and radiator into service position!) for the first time thanks to this.

Thanks for this. That starting point is crucial. The bumper constelation on my '03 Caravelle is a litle more expansive, but the same interlocking principle. Just look a little instinct and bravery after the numberplate came off!

Had a heck of a time getting mine loose, but this helped. It was hard to get leverage to whack on the bumper guard to free it from its tracks. Turning around and using the heel of my foot helped to break it free.

Thanks for this! Just wondering what screws are attaching the bottom bit? They’re missing from our van. Think it’s had a bit of a dint at some point as the whole plate seems too big and just pings out 😮 Screws will really help hold it in

Just as a note, those lugs lock the bumper in place. You need to pull them partly out to remove the bumper. Watched your video simply to check out making a aftermarket bumper for my t4 Syncro 1996. May not happen. Anyway thanks for putting up the video

After two days of trying to get the bumper off to install front parking sensors, and finding exactly the same problem - lastic slugs pushed in too far - I am now successful - break of the four 'wings' that are expanded by the plug, with a flat blade screwdriver and a hammer and lever the plugs out with a long nosed plier. It hasn't helped to find that the plugs have been inserted the wrong way round. The attachment is fixed TO the vehicle, not FROM the vehicle, the shamferred ends of the plugs should be inserted into the holes in the attachment until the FLAT ends are non interfering. Doing it correctly makes life much easier.

It seems that if the bumpers have been off at any time previously, then almost universally they are difficult to remove as people don't recognise that the dowels cal lock it in position

Battery cover was in the van when I bought it, so ia m assuming O.E. but I must admit it would be a lot better on a LHD van where the cabin air intake is on the opposite side to the battery tray

had the same problem with the front. thats what happens when the car is from 1994 and the front has never been off before.

Its an unusual design of attachment. Ive never seen it on anything else. Maybe real VW heads, will be able to tell us if its a common VW thing?

@@ToTheGarage i doubt it. i work at a scrapyard in norway where we dismantle all parts that can be reused before we crush the cars and ive taken off many fronts. this is the first time i have seen this system, most just have plastic clips, bolts or two screws in on each side.

Ive not tried that one actually. Do You rate it Gary. It would not work for my bumpers though as the front is faded plastic. Now restored as per the next video using textured paint (brilliant!) but the back is fibreglass and painted to a slightly faded grey colour to match how the front was before I restored it😁. So im committed to Pro-Tex now.
