Having watched this I now have confidence to do this job. One question I have though - I've seen some channels recommend use of copper or other suitable grease before installing the new discs and also greasing the locating tabs of the pads to ensure they slide smoothly along the caliper. Maybe this is overkill and I can imagine the grease on the pads would soon disappear anyway after driving through a few rainstorms but interested to know your thoughts on this. Also some people use a wire brush and brake cleaner to clean up everything - again maybe this is more cosmetic than functional. Finally I think most people advise to bleed the brakes after this kind of job and certainly this would be a suitable time to do that job as well because this can make a huge difference to overall brake performance as well as pedal feel and should be done from time to time regardless of any other work. Thanks once again for a great video filmed at a nice clear angle making it easy to follow.

Hello Dave's, thanks for supporting my channel and engaging in this topic, many people making videos are inexperienced and just follow and apply what they see in videos they watched, I am a 35+ year veteran being a professionally trained Mechanic and remaining one all my adult life, so you can imagine how many brake repair procedures I have done, yes your comments about cleaning the brake area, applying grease is cosmetic, when there is a problem with seized calliper sliders it has to be removed and repaired, not smeared with grease, besides if grease gets on the abrasive surfaces of the pads it will be drastically compromised. As one knows the minute new brakes start working if gives off brake dust and the brakes are an open system exposed to the elements, therefore the brake dust is discarded immediately, but being so fine some of it sticks to the surrounding components, this will not affect the efficiency of the braking system. It is never necessary to bleed brakes unless the hydraulic system has been worked on and opened allowing air in, Brake hydraulic systems are sealed keeping the brake fluid in, merely changing brake pads will not allow air into the hydraulic system through standard replacement procedures., I hope that answers your questions and once again thank you for your support, check out my website for more useful information and let me know what you think. @@vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790 Hi Gary, nice to hear from you and thanks for replying to my comments. It's always good to hear from someone who actually has hands on experience day in day out. I guess the copper grease manufacturers would go out of business if more people knew this! I'll definitely take a look at other videos on your channel for maintenance advice and ideas. Next big job will be replacement of suspension bushes and possibly the shocks too while I'm there. Cheers, DAVE

Don’t let the caliper hang like in the video. If you do this it could damage the brake line which could impact the performance and operation of your brakes

Thank you Oom, Another excellent video... I think you might have covered this in the comments already...My question is about the regular brake fluid flush... I do understand a computer must be plugged in to properly bleed the system, - in order to flush the fluid in the ABS pump aswell... 1. How effective and is it safe, If we can just bleed the system using the old school method - without using a computer ? 2. Is is necessary to bleed the clutch aswell, as I believe the clutch shares the same fluid reservoir ? I obviously would not hold you to your answers...However your advise will be appreciated. Thank you once again for the great videos...Keep it going..

There is one thing that I'd like to make sure of. After you have installed the new brake pads and went to pump the brake pedal a couple of times, did you close the brake fluid cap to prevent the pressure on the brake pedal from pushing the brake fluid out of the top? Not sure whether that will happen or not but I'd like to be sure before attempting this. Thanks for the video!

Hello, Morne thanks for supporting my channel, rest assured the brake fluid will not be pumped out the reservoir cap as the pressure is pushed into the brake pipes when the pedal is depressed, even with the cap off. Gary

Hello, I have installed brand new ceramic pads with motul rbf600 fluid, brakes bled, pedal gets hard when pumping engine off but not hard as rock. If I put constant pressure, the pedal doesn't go to the floor, it's not moving further. Should the brake system start braking with little pedal travel ? Thanks

Hi thanks for supporting my channel with your visit, all cars are different, factors such as toe-board clearance, age of the car type of flexible brake hoses fitted (some are braided) if the brake master and slave cylinders/callipers/pads/shoes etc. have been replaced and are the brakes bled and adjusted (as in brake shoes) properly, these are all factors which can affect the feel of a brake pedal, the important thing is the pedal should not feel extra spongy or hard and the brakes are activated with minimal effort through applying nominal pressure to the brake pedal and it slows or stops the vehicle in good time. I hope that answers your enquiry. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to you. Gary

Hi Niko, thanks for supporting my channel with your visit and interaction, it seems you have problems with your ABS system, you may have to bleed the system with diagnostics, it is called ABS bleeding, it requires diagnostic equipment with an ABS bleeding module (software), best left to the experts.
