Use this stuff: 3M 08609 Window-Weld Super Fast Urethane Black Cartridge - 10.5 fl oz. with this primer 3M 08682 Single Step Primer - 30 ml ... RE006 Sealey Suction Clamp Set 6pc ... this is the only way to glue window back in and have it last.

Is the window regulator the same for he Convertible and Hard tops? Or do they use the same regulator?

No, the control unit for all 4 Windows is on the Window Regulator Motor, parts Number most likely 1Y1 959 801 the hard top has only 2 Windows and the Windows don‘t have to drop down if the door is opened. This control Unit in the driver side regulator also controls the central locking. You can cance just the motor (most like a Bosch) if it is broken, there is a Number on the Motor, but the control unit is unique to this model.

You didn't address the part about the window is supposed to drop a little to clear the convertible top, automatically. I've looked at three used convertibles and that function did not work. When you shut the door, the window does not go down automatically, and you risk breakage. It does work with the clicker. It always happens on the drivers door. Is that a computer glitch or defective switching?

The VW part number is 1Y0 837 461F I spoke to a VW dealer and there were none available in the UK. They cost the thick end of £200 so I've ordered a genuine used regulator on eBay.

so how do you actually repair the window regulator tension wires. when replacing them.

The exact problem I had. The only solution I found was place my fingers in the top between the glass and the outer panelled use the tension to work the glass up. Actually, it wasn't as difficult as I expected, once I was able to get the class moving upwards a little it became easier to grab and I could then pull the window up until the holding brackets appeared in the circular cutouts, undoing them allowed the complete removal of the window.

Sorry about the typos, this should be better, The exact problem I had. Hey! I have my regulator assembly but the cable snapped and it has the plastic parts still. Do you guys offer replacement of those parts? Can I mail it to you or something? I’d really love to be able to put my drivers front window down.

This video is massively useless. It doesn't actually show how to replace the regulator, they just take it off and put it back on. Wow, so amazing!

This video is actually pretty good. They do leave out some of the dum-dum stuff, but it's still adequate. The frustrations I read, in between the lines, are the general frustrations with this lousy car. This new beetle, particularly the convertible has to rank in the top 10 of worst vehicles designed and built, in the history of humanity. The repair invoices on this car add up to more than the car cost new (2004 Turbo Convertible). And, now the top needs to be replaced, and the rear left window. I could go on and on. (Try changing a front light headlight bulb, and see if that doesn't make you loose your religion.) What a VW fiasco. Fun to drive, yeah! But horrible to own,...unless your wealthy and can pay somebody to fix it once per month.

top replacement is standard for every soft top convertible, the front lights slide into the connection fitting...

I agree with everything you said except for the headlight bulb replacement. I hated that design at first but after changing a few headlight bulbs, I've come to find that it's really easy and fast to do. One of the few things about my 2004 Beetle convertible that I don't hate.

The only thing I hate is the fact the the owner of the one I work on runs it into the ground and that the convertible-specific parts seem to be twice the price of the hatchback ones with window regulators being a case in point.

Very pretty video, also totally worthless in the DIY repair category because it doesn't show you how to do anything. Unless your are too stupid to know how to remove bolts and screws. Starting with a regulator that would bring the window up....was your first clue.

this vid sucks , they leave out more than 1/2 of the procedure . They want people to try , and 1/2 way thru get stuck , or break something , so they get frustrated , and have to pay out the ass for them to fix it .

Wow looks like a pain in the ass to fix!

ME EITHER!!! 😡 I’ve had nothing but problems with my VW BEETLE! The day after I purchased it. The light stopped working. Blinker didn’t work. That was a sign.
