VW MK7 GTI - Turbo Inlet Pipe Install DIY

ECS Turbo Inlet Pipe: goo.gl/sGaAoA
MK7 GTI Mod List: goo.gl/WxDTLV
Tools: goo.gl/PJFUZU
In today's video we show how to remove the restrictive plastic stock turbo inlet pipe and install our own ECS Tuning Big Bore Turbo Inlet Pipe. The install is easy and only takes a few basic tools.
By increasing the ID of the inlet pipe, the turbo can breathe easier. This resulted in a nice increase in mid-range power on our tuned MK7 GTI. This is a great mod for someone who is Stage 1, Stage 2, or even someone with a bigger IS38 turbo. The kit fits the VW IS12, IS20, and IS38 factory turbochargers found in the 1.8T and 2.0T MQB cars. For a complete list of vehicle fitment, visit the link to the product above.

I’ve done a couple of these, and here’s a tip: the PCV hose coupling is a bitch to get off in place, but there is enough slack in the hose to unbolt the inlet pipe, wiggle out the pipe, and once it’s free lift it up slightly and then you can get a good grip on the coupling and unplug it. So much easier, and you don’t have to do all that unnecessary work removing the PCV hose, connectors, etc. Done in 5-10 minutes tops.

@@Andrew-bd7mp...It's do-able but it's not easy by any stretch...it's a bitch. I got mine off after a fight, and when putting it back on to my new turbo inlet pipe I had to use a screwdriver handle like a pry bar applying quite a lot of downward pressure to get the fitting to seat in place just hope I don't have to do it for a long time. Part of the problem is it's back by the firewall and leaning over it's hard to get enough leverage.
Just did now installed on my MK7 R. I didnt have to remove any coil plugs or unplug but a few connectors. Also don’t bother removing breather tube from top engine side, just remove stock intake elbow with oil breather hose still attached and instead of stabbing a friend with a pick, use a stubby large flathead screw driver and open like a paint can. It pops right off after you work around it 100 deg or so. Super easy.

Just go ahead and drop the subframe and rear diff.. it’ll slide right out then
I lifted the breather hose a bit, loosened that torx with a T25 (slowly) and then turned the inlet pipe 90 degrees towards the firewall and it came right out. 5 minutes. Then, went to town trying to loosed the breather hose until it finally gave, but now it feels loose after re-install. Fixed that with a few drops of super glue.
Love these videos purchasing mine next week
just did both,video helped. was a simple install.
Wish I would’ve known there were 2 style of hoses on our car. On the Shop DAP video, Paul said “just squeeze the sides and pull, it’s easy” and I now know I had the pressure type hose on my car. That thing was a nightmare to take off by myself. Nice little mod though.
As what other ppl state for helpful tips I found that inverting the stock turbo inlet pipe with the connector on and putting WD 40 to let it soak for a sec helps it slip out as well. Had to do a fall back since my lugs on the coil packs were lose and didn't have a special wrench to keep it in place to do that workaround like in the video.

Although I agree with many of the comments that the removal of the PCV breather hose is unnecessary to install a TIP, I do it find it helpful to know how to remove the PCV hose from the PCV valve in case I need to replace the stock breather hose down the road.. and not coincidentally, ECS sells a replacement PCV breather hose for the mk7 GTI. 2 birds, one video.
Easy installation he said. I started three weeks ago and am still😅 at it.

Can you do this on the 1.4TSI MK7 Golf?
Does anyone know if this part carries any risk of voiding the factory warranty? I'd like to get one to go with the K&N drop-in and turbo inlet hose that I just got, but I'm a little wary of anything bolting closer to the engine that the warranty police would take issue with.
Nice
I looked through a lot of questions about it. But I haven't seen any asking about a newer 1.8t TSI gen 3. I have a 2015 beetle and the piping runs up top across the back of the motor. Not like that one. Will it not work for a bug or is there something else I need to do?

My dudes on donut media now. Nice
If I already have a tune. Do I need to adjust anything or does it do it by itself?
That was a hell of a lot of extra work when all you have to do is remove one screw, twist and pull it out. Lol
I wish if you have for gti mk6!!
Why not a side by side comparation of the piece?
nice
is it normal for the intake hose (which is attached to the inlet pipe) to wiggle some? I tightened the torx bolt on the inlet pipe but I still get quite a bit of play in the intake. All hose clamps are tight, the hose doesn't move, the inlet pipe does.
Easier way to take off the pcv pipe is to unbolt the inlet pipe so its loose and you can directly pull the pcv from the inlet
Should really reach out to @Marcus Parks. He’s a cool dude and is gonna be ordering mad parts, subscriber to both channels!!!
Can I consider myself lucky? I went straight to the pcv and it took me 3 seconds to pull it, after that just disconnected the hoses and the screw, inlet pipe out, 10 minutes later I was done.
can I expect big changes to the sound of the turbo with this thing?
Will this benefit me with being stock on a mk7 gti?
Did u need a tune after installing, like a air/fuel ratio
Will this work on a mqb tiguan?
This dude made it much harder than it actually is. The trick is to go full beast mode on the pcv connector to the pipe while twisting and pulling. It will pop right off.
Good morning guys i have a Golf 7.5 GTI with Revo stage 1 tuning. I have also airbox modded with drop filter.... i would like to install also a turbo inlet pipe and a inlet hose ... Should be ok with your stage1 or I going to lose performance, torque, etc? Thanks!
Great, there is one for the Porsche?
Anyone know about a Forge DV fitment issue with a inlet pipe installed?
Constant pressure pcv tube sucked for me, especially being that I have big hands. Turbo inlet is a sweet little upgrade, especially if you are or are planning on running an aftermarket intake. I’m using a CTS inlet that I got on one of their frequent sales and paired it with a Cobb intake. Lots of good noise.

Same when installing my CTS unit. I ended up actually breaking the stock inlet PCV nipple in half trying to remove that constant pressure connector. I didn't go to the trouble of removing the PCV hose on the other end and related accessories, and while more involved, might have saved some headache for me as fishing that broken piece out of the PCV hose was also a huge pain!

Yooooooo shoutout to donut media
When is the next car give away, also can you do and international Competition please
I'm an hour and a half in, and I just got the inlet out, but called my buddy over to help get the hose out. Plenty of broken plastic clips now from doing this. Not "easy" at all. Total pain.
Honestly not a fun time, but that is partially because I was cleaning up the mess some chipmunks decided to make. Also the PCV hose got all turned around and the retention lips or whatever they are were a pain in the ass. Snapped off part of one side, but it still seems rock solid so... also found out the MST hose is just a tad longer than it should be and this means you really have to give it a good shove to make sure that you can put the airbox back together.
Do you sell replacement o-rings for the ECS part? Can't find it on your website.
Love the content! Question for ANYONE: Should I go with a muffler/resonator delete OR a CAI w/turbo inlet pipe as my FIRST mod? Thanks all.

would this void my warranty ? i know it would only add better air flow, but how would VAG see about it ?

odds are the dealership wouldnt even notice this mod. we do warranty repairs to modded cars all the time. most of the time they have us techs look at the car to see if they did anything that voided the warranty, and as long as they didnt do anything retarded i dont rat them out. i dont care if homeboy gets a free warranty repair, i mean, i would want the same done for me. now if they need a motor cause they threw a rod and i see they had an ebay turbo kit installed at one point, thats a different story.
Here’s a tip: check with your insurer that they are happy to cover you, I’ve had several of them not insuring me once they learned about the turbo inlet and OBD11 tweaks even though my car tune is stock. If you don’t tell them and you’re involved in a crash, they likely will not cover you 🥊

Michael Broski from what Ive read the stock airbox flows good. This inlet pipe, drop in filter and remove the “snow guard” in the intake box and your good to go. You can also cut holes in your plastic behind your grill for more air to flow straight to the air box

Yes it will. I went with CTS Turbos inlet pipe because it was on sale for $68. I'm installing it right now haha
Everything I've found thus far states that inlet pipes do nothing for power but simply increase throttle response. Seeing how the inlet pipe gets reduced at the turbo to fit the coupler, isn't the desired result negated by the reduction at the coupler?

No just get rid of that slow piece of shit
Just do this model when you upgrade your intake. There’s no reason at all to take off the fuel rail And that step only complicates things. If you replace the intake you’re taking all that stuff out anyway so you’ll have the room to work to save yourself and not necessary headache
For the goofballs watching this video and making claims about what a turbo inlet does or does not do please just shut up and read for once in your life. In terms of flow you are looking at a significant increase in flow as well as a smoother flow if you also remove the factory pipe. Is this more of an OEM+ type mod? Yes, and you should look to a downpipe first if you're going for big power gains, but at the same time that's leaving the path of OEM+ for the hassle of modified car life which for some people isn't worth it. Not to mention that stage 2 should not be just a dp and a tune because you're asking for trouble. Humblemechanic has a full build for his stage 2 MK7.5 R and it cost over 5k when he was done... I'd prefer to stay around half that for stage 1 with some bolt on parts to enhance the feeling of the car while also netting you a small amount of power in the mid or upper portion of your powerband. mygolfmk7.com/turbo-inlet-pipe/
That lowered gti behind you 😂
Can this be done to a 1.4L TSI like in the Golf’s or the Jetta’s?
@blurry_eyes
3 жыл бұрын
It's a completely different turbo, the inlet is routed to the left and the pcv hose goes directly into the intake piping just before the filter box. So in short, no.
is there any actual Before Dyno and after Dyno stat sheets to show actual improvements on a STOCK car where this is the ONLY mod?
@CaptainCandycorn
4 жыл бұрын
Theres actually a thread on the MK7 forum that goes into great detail about the physics and mathematics behind the turbo inlet pipe and how the stock one actually might turn out to be better due to the internal tapered shape. This allows the air to speed up a great deal before hitting the turbo.
@One_Guy
4 жыл бұрын
@@CaptainCandycorn thanks! do you have a link to that post? i assume that factory power without tuning for the increased flow capabilities and higher boost than stock this may be true. @fredygump5578
4 жыл бұрын
@@One_Guy With a stock MK7, no "upgrade" will increase power aside from a tune. Why? Because the only way an "upgrade" part will increase power is if the stock part was limiting power. The fact that a stage 1 tune is able to give such a large increase in power proves that none of the engine components are limiting the car at stock power levels. Because the parts are not limiting the car, changing them will not increase HP. (Now, if you had stage 2, you may find a small benefit to an intake/ air inlet pipe...but only to the degree that the intake is the bottleneck. But at that point, almost everything in the car is in lining up to be the next bottleneck
@grahamek86
3 жыл бұрын
@@fredygump5578 That's not entirely true though. Engines make more power by ingesting more air. Any mechanism used to make the engine ingest more air above 100% volumetric efficiency will have a parasitic power loss associated with it, i.e a turbocharger. Assuming a constant engine speed of 6000rpm., if the engine makes x horse power at y air flow with z pressure you can be sure there is a parasitic loss associated with the creation of the necessary z pressure. Reduce the energy requirement for that boost pressure by reducing the pressure ratio and you remove parasitic loss. The ECU actually has an entire calibration area dedicated to calculating the pressure difference between the air filter and the compressor inlet. Removing or reducing that restriction will allow more air flow. TL;DR you don't know what you're talking about.
@fredygump5578

@@grahamek86 Hilarious! You can't see the forest for the trees! If you want a 1% gain, maybe...possibly...if you do it just right...but it is wayyyy more likely that your "upgrade" will actually hurt performance! But gain or loss, you aren't going to feel it because it is so small. Oh, you just want to believe that you can cleverly improve performance with cheap mods? Keep believing, but it is a pipe dream.
