Any Golf fans out there? Do you think this is worth the price? It is a fun car to drive but for you new drivers out there this may not be the best choice.

Bought this car in May 2018 with DSG, and LED lights all round. Love it. Perfect blend of economy and fun for me

@@sh7bby I recently traded for an Arteon R Line. But a close friend now has a Golf 8 R Line with the same engine. They're great cars. Health to enjoy when it arrives. Hope you're not waiting too long for it

Great review. I’ve just bought exactly the same car . Paid 18k for it with 30,000 miles. Absolutely love it and it has the heated windscreen. Your right in what you said. I wish I had bought a GTI I’m like a poor Golf owner 😂

That roundabout looks like the Yeading roundabout going into Tesco or Burger King. Loool you're local bro.💯 I use Golf as well. My favourite car so far. I've got a makeshift Ford focus 19 as a courtesy car and compared to the Golf. I'd pick the golf all day

you get one of these if you don't want to spend half your life at the petrol pump, although the GTD is also a good compromise

How's the oil consumption? Do you recommend the DSG version? i live in a small town, not much trafic.

Well oil consumption depends. I didn't really change it being brand new and I don't think VW change it unless its needs changing. i would not worry about the oil consumption with this car. But small town and no traffic you must be giving the car a good run. I can't speak for DSG but I know it would be best in traffic. If you don't have traffic you probably dont need an auto. Also I believe the DSG is more expensive than the manual? Might need to see the difference when you search. But honestly the 1.5 petrol manual is quicker than the 2 litre diesel. But keep researching. Im sure someone has shared their dsg experience. Good luck! Hope this helped.

Did you configure an individual driver mode or just switch between eco normal and sport? I just picked one of these up.

Off memory I think I pretty much just used Economy most of the time and then switched to sports. Didnt bother with individual because it didnt have a huge amount of options to change. Enjoy it though. i miss the car a lot.

Would you recommend for someone who has been driving over 2 years now and is looking for something more powerful but is not going to put insurance through the roof?

Yes I would recommend this. Assuming you have the budget. Anything under 180bhp/ 2litre shouldn't be too bad with insurance. Best to just see quotes with cars on auto trader. Should give u a rough figure.

Hi was wondering what the maintenance costs for this golf is like? I’ve been researching and there’s a forum that has a split opinion on whether or not the cambelt needs changing at all? One said change every 50k miles, another said should last the lifetime of the car. Would appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks!

Hello. I only drove the car up to about 25k miles before I sold it. Had zero issues till then. The reason why the forum is split is because it all depends on how the car was driven. So cambelt could be from 50k to 100k. All depends on driver and if it was city drive or motorway drive.! I think overall maintenance cost for the Golf is average but with inflation rising and depending on the work it can be a huge hit. For example my friends Golf petrol costed him 3k to fix his gearbox/transmission. I would not put maintenance cost as the main factor when purchasing a car due to every car having different problems in the long run. Except for the luxury cars like Merc, BMW etc. Hope this helps.

Nah i wouldnt bother. It's 1.5 btw. I don't think they do 1.4 anymore in this model. But yh i wouldnt bother personally

Good review mate. I just got a 2018 GTE Advance, but thinking do I swap it for normal Golf 7.5 r line because when it is not charged it takes alot of fuel mpg is rubbish. Full charge is only 21 miles. If I could charge everyday it will be fine but I dont have a charger at home. Boots small, its really heavy, no spare wheel, so seeing if its worth it. Got 30 days to exhange for another model of same price. Was even thinking to for 2L tdi for fuel economy

Man from what I read do it. I assume u mean 210 miles from one charge? Either way the R line was getting me around 360 miles and if I drove sensibly 400 miles. The 1.5 petrol isn’t far off the diesel for economy. But tax might be cheaper on diesel.

Spray the rims black, debadge it and put an r line badge on the back. If its white maybe get the roof black. Can potentially get a little spoiler. And also get the quad exhausts on the back so it looks exactly like a golf r.

Saw one of these but with a digital dash?? What would would that be the 7.5?

1 friend has the Skoda with same engine and DSG and he said when the engine is cold he gets that.. this is what is putting me off from buying Golf 1,5 tsi and buying Polo GTI for the same price brand new

@@lani6356 well for a fun speedy drive yeah the polo GTI is better. But Golf is Golf. Its much more comfy. Its weird I have experienced that with the engine.

Lani its a great engine and plenty pull above 2000rpm, smooth and economical also last golf was a three cylinder with 115 hp which was pokier in the lower gears, but no regrets changing👍

Hello, no unfortunately. The car is more economical with just a little sporty look/ feel. Unless you wish to modify it yourself. But id recommend buying a secondhand R or GTI. Simply because when you drive an R-Line... It feels good but you will feel like you have second best and wish you had the R when you see it drive past. If you have the budget. :)

I did it myself. I just bought a tint spray on ebay. Pretty amateur job tbh but luckily didn't ruin it.

I don't remember. You might have to google it. Sold this car a while back. Its decent though driving around town still got me around 360 miles in a tank.

@@tomjbird ah ok. So you want brand new? Just from experience. I part exchanged my corsa for 4500, then 1k on top myself as deposit. VW put on a grand themselves I think and I got 1k off the price because my mum has a vw so I got a decent deal. I'm paying 250 a month. This is a pcp for 3 years. After that I still have to pay 8k to keep the car. I ve had the car for a year and half and i already want to sell it. Its 18 plate with just under 7k miles. It's value is about 10k cheaper than what it was brand new. So I could get about 18k if I sold it privately. Reason why I'm selling is because I don't drive it enough. I commute on a bike. Also... The bike I have is a 650 which will leave this golf in the dust. 3.5 secs 0 to 60. So I got bored of the Golf. Now... Thats just me. Of course I love this car and you will too but i hope u don't regret it later on. My settlenent figure is 14.5k. So yeah. If you want a golf secondhand... Im looking for a buyer lol the golf has no damages or anything. Tinted lights as u can see. Low mileage. Just sits outside. I take it out once a week. U can look on autotrader for the same car and it will be similar price. Sorry long messsge

The admissions of speeding are bad enough but when you combine that with your abysmal steering technique, that could be a recipe for disaster. You sound like an intelligent guy, but the feeling of invincibility you have will quickly disappear when you run over a mother and child crossing the road, or plough into someone else's car. Keep both your hands on the wheel - learn to drive properly.
