VW Golf MK7 Water leaks into boot / water in boot

Спорт

Had problems for months with water leaking into the car, (I literally had an entire wheel well full of water at one point )
Probably took around two hours to fix the problems all in all.
I used 3M seam sealer on the side vents and the speakers. I used gutter sealant on the lights (as it doesn’t set and I may need to remove the lights again !

Yep had the leaks from both side vents and also the badge pipe grommet. Cheap to fix when you know about them but a bloody headache up to that stage! Thank god for KZread!

FOR EVERY GOLF 7 OWNER: check these out: (tip: keep a toilet paper roll in the sidepockets of the booth. Thats how i noticed my problem, it was wet, even tho no water was visible) 1. slam vents (water in booth or underneath the backseat) take vents off, clean and apply tons of silicone, new ones will corrode eventually. 2. Panoramic roof drains (they might be clogged leading to infiltration by the panoramic roof) ugly mess, stained interior on all walls down to the footwell. 3. Speaker sealant foam (all 4)(water underneath the speakers grill and on the inside of the door sealant at speaker level, leads to water in the footwell and mold later) ugglier mess. 4. Reverse camera cover/drain pipe (water in the booth). I was lucky. Had all of them. 5. Tail lights. Water in booth. Dont know how to fix this, but check after pressure washing your car.

I had exactly the same and sealed the vents. I also took the little rubber grommet out of the bottom of the cavity and made a couple of holes in just to let any water out. Been perfect ever since.

@@Anoymus985 I found a video on KZread to see how it was done. Wheels off, rear lights out and three screws inside each wheel arch I think. Wasn't too difficult but the bumper is quite flimsy as its just a plastic cover. To be honest I'm not 100% sure that you need to seal the vents even though I did, you may be just as well taking the two rubber plugs out to let any water out.

I am finding water in the boot and under the rear seat also in my 2015 VW eGolf, all electric. I was thinking it was coming from the charging port (gas tank cap area on gas cars). The tiny drain hole at the bottom was clogged with gunk. I am not sure yet if this is where water is getting in, just a thought. I will have to check these other areas too. Rob S thanks for the video.

I had the same issue on my MK7 Golf R. The water was entering the boot via the boot seal from the level of the taillights. The seams on the tailgate of the Golf have also been poorly sealed. I have sealed all around the interior of the boot seams. I also as a precaution replaced the rear light seals though this was not a water entry point. The main culprit was the boot rubber. I took it off and cleaned all inside the seal, then sealed it with black rubber seam sealer. No more water leaks have been detected, Thankfully

Blue motion tsi golf with this issue and I can't figure out where it's coming from. It's got no pipe which is wierd, just a rubber grommet where the pipe is meant to be but nothing to connect onto the pipe. 🤷‍♂️. I figure it's the vents... Do you know if this fixed your issue?? And how did you drain the water from inside the chassis?

  • @sorbetingle

Alternatively for a quicker fix, you can from underneath the car pop out the rubber grommet revealing a hole directly below that water trapped compartment area that you showed, (do the same on other side of the car if necessary) that way you no need to take off bumper, and the water will always drain thru those holes and never fill spare wheel well again.

there is a rubber grommet in the centre where the water is pooling, push it down and remove it, solved my issue instantly

Same issue. I just bought two new vents from vw at 24 quid each. I have to say, for a modern-ish car design VW should be ashamed of this. I've had some proper crap old cars in recent years snd none of them have leaked. The new vents have a rubber seal and the ones in my 63 plate have no seal at all so water just piles in. Weird how weve only noticed it in the lat few years but, that's life. VW Golf mk7. Crap design.

Heya, so I removed the vents and sealed them to the body using 3M seam sealer (I'm sure something else similar like tigerseal or silkaflex would be fine too) The water drains out once you release the rubber bung but you want it to not get in there in the first place, sealing the vent to the car body will stop it from entering

@@isaacdenston-flynn3577 they’re held in by plastic clips, I put my fingers through the openings and pulled down on the tab then they just spring out. You could dismantle the inside but this was easier as I had the bumper off. You could just seal around them but it may leak again doing it that way
