VW Golf mk5 Instrument Cluster (Micronas) How to Remove, Fix + Refit + set ABS Long coding

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here we have a mk5 VW Golf with a faulty instrument cluster, initially this was going to be a quick video to show how to remove & refit the cluster & show how we re-program a second hand unit to replace it but in todays case we managed to repair the old unit.. We also show how to set the long coding on the ABS pump - this happens when you install a secondhand cluster & don't have it programmed before installing! - What happens is that the ABS pump detects the VIN number in the cluster is different & wipes the long coding to all zero's - Normally this is not a problem with VCDS (Vagcom) but as you will see in the video today this didn't go as planned so we went online with the Thinktool Max (Launch diagnostic) & set it with this system...

Hi, nice video, i have also a MK5 and I have a question. Is it possible to swith the instrument cluster for the one with big display. The one which is in it is the one with smaller display, and I was wondering if it is possible to do such a thing, and does it need a lot of work to do or is it just plug the other one with big display and do the coding? Thanks!

Hi, yes it’s possible - it’s not just a straight swap though, we should be able to transfer the Immo block for you & then you can do the coding by OBD..

In the beginning of your video you mentioned that you bypassed the immobilizer and deleted it. Can you tell me how you did that or can you make a video about how you did that or do you have one already about that? Did you have to send your ECU into a place and have them delete it off of it? Cuz I've had to do that before more than once

Hi & thanks for watching! This is actually a very old China version, before they got really bad, I had to update the firmware & software to make it work.. I actually bought it to see if it was any good before I bought the genuine tool, I have not yet bought the genuine tool as this one has never failed me!

Hi, it depends on which tools you have & which type of ABS it is, if you have original VCDS then the guys at Rosstech may be able to help by email, there are also various calculators available online for ABS MK60 & ESP8.2 or as shown in the video on a lot of systems it’s possibly with the Thinktool Max / Topdon / Launch diagnostic tools etc… if all else fails then you will need connecting online to ODIS….

I had this exact problem I disconnected battery checked fuses everything was good and still didn’t work, tried turning it the next day and it turned on like nothing happened? Could this just be bad mobilizer connection? Thankyou

This could well be a faulty instrument cluster, if you want to replace it you will need to buy a donor unit with a matching part number & have it cloned before fitting - We offer a cloning service by post! ecuconnection.co.uk/product/hyundai-i10-airbag-ecu-95910-b9250-programming-reset-repair-service/

How did you remove the immobiliser. I have a seat leon engine in my caddy but have to run the leon clocks and they dont fit to well. So would be ideal if i could remove the immobiliser so i can run my original clocks

Hi & thanks for watching!.. The immobiliser was not removed from this vehicle, we repaired the instrument cluster, if the repair was not successful then we read the data ready to clone another set of clocks. We are able switch the immobiliser off many VAG cars if you need - we may also have a different solution for transplanting your clocks, check us out at www.ecuconnection.co.uk or ring us for advice..

Why the clone and coding ?

Hi, if you watch again the start of the video, the original cluster was completely dead, didn’t power up at all & had no comms with Diag tools.. the reason for coding was because we plugged in a replacement unit to test - this unfortunately wipes the ABS coding due to it having the wrong VIN, this happens on a lot of VAG cars & is why we recommend people don’t test fit clusters unless you have the equipment to recode afterwards, and even with coding equipment it can still be an awkward job - as detailed in the video! We would usually just clone these units but as we didn’t have the correct unit available I decided to repair the PCB instead which in this case worked out fine..
