A few little spots around the hatch opening and some other small spots… No worries, Mitch has it under control! You sure have done a good job keeping Kona under wraps until the video series is finished. This whole body of work will be a great resource for future bus restorers!

Your perseverance is to be greatly commended. Most would have given up but your determination to fix the problems is never ending, even when you have a lot of frustration. I KNOW you did get through this and ended up with one of the most amazing VW Bus restorations every made. A TRUE concourse restoration!! I'm sure you are already enjoying the fruits of you labor now based on when this video was made.

I was laughing out aloud when you showed Lori the ‘forward’ gear…. Your face as it moved backward. Been watching since the beginning and it’s not far off for the first ever drive. Unless you fancy going backwards ! 💯💯😂👍🏽

ahhh, electrical… there’s ALWAYS issues when combining old technology with new. Different species, or some other purely magical issue. Automotive and coach Electrical troubleshooting was a specialty in my Dallas shop. I can honestly say that, besides simple shorts and grounding issues, the problems were ALWAYS traced to non OEM add on systems or accessories. It’s extremely frustrating, good job on preserving, and fighting through to the end for a well earned victory! Think of how much you’ve learned through Kona’s rebirth! I’m so very happy for Y’all!

1) Kona is looking so awesome. 2) your problem solving skills are becoming so top notch you deserve a degree in that. 3) I was beginning to wonder about the transmission when you could get it in "2nd" but not 1st and then you went backwards... So glad you have gotten it this far and excited for more. Also, how great did it feel to have learned so much from Claudio and Eddie that you were able to fix things that Dom messed up?

Dom did the worse paint job on the history, you should get refund for that, Rebort should had fired that slobber years ago

Looking great! Bummer about the shifting issue. I'm sure you'll have it sorted. Wiring can be so frustrating, especially when you're integrating LED's. Yes, I miss Claudio too, that guy is the best!! Dom should have never been allowed anywhere near that bus.

Dom created a ton of aggravation!!!!!!!!! The bus looks awesome!!! I learned a lot about wiring and LED lights!!!!

I'm on the edge of my seat to see Kona starting moving forward after all of those years until its went reverse. I was like HUH?! WHAT?! NO WAY?! but i hope that you fix that issue asap to see it moving forward! :D

You been getting a little to techy with the bus. LED has a place, but not in all the places many try to force it in. The Lord Bless you and yours.

I’m very impressed with your electrical skills. That is one thing I absolutely hate doing and you make it look easy.

When you mentioned the paint job again I thought aren’t you being a little picky Mic, but then you showed it and then I thought Jesus Dom what the hell, because I remembered you had him redo it already. The only good thing about these little hiccups in getting Kona to run is you’re going to know this vehicle inside and out. Hopefully they all workout I’m looking forward to you driving that bus

Imagine if you went there you’d see it. It’s been almost two years since this video was filmed. I’m guessing Kona is finished by now. Not sure why the video uploads are so far behind though

I had a '73 VW Super Beetle. The wiring in it was frustrating until I hooked up with a good VW wiring expert. I learned on VW's, everything needs proper grounding.

setting of your shift rod, three will now be one and four will be second gear. so adjust your shift rod

Hahahahahaha! Did the same in my ‘68 std swapping the reverse gear out. I drove so fast in 3rd gear backwards!!!! Got real fast at dropping and breaking down the transaxle😂😂😂. It won’t hurt you to see the innards of that transaxle, you will truly be able to say you had a wrench on just about everything in the beauty🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽

Each bolt you tighten make a mark with correction fluid or paint pen so you know it’s done

With your turn signal problem, sounds like you have a bad ground. All paint has to be removed around the ground wire terminals, you can't count on the threads to provide a good enough ground point

Obviously you have figured out what’s wrong with your transmission by now. I believe you have the lock out plate under the shifter backwards. You were getting reverse instead of 2nd gear. I’d live to see the car someday as we live near where you were finishing it in Washington.

Saudações do Brasil, normalmente quando se engata uma marcha que não seja a ré e o carro vai para traz, pode ser diferencial virado na caixa de mudanças, experimenta engatar a terceira e a quarta para ver se, se comporta do mesmo jeito, se andar pra tras, o diferencial esta virado, sendo que vc terá uma marcha a frente e 4 para tras, pode tentar tb engatar a ré e ver se não vai para frente.

I had a 79 VW Rabbit. That car does reverse in 2nd gear. To go forward, you must shift to 2nd then 1st. I dunno, got to be a VW thing. Look forward to your next episode.

Sometimes you have to go backwards to go forward. 🙂 Hopefully an easy fix now that you see what's happening.

IMO you have the plate for the gear stick the wrong way round. ie. there is no "gate" to get into reverse. To get reverse, you push down, move to the left then back. with no "gate" you are simply putting it into reverse.

You need to change the position of the plate between the shifter base and the floor. The slightly curved upward tab on the plate has to point forward and on the right.

A LED bulb is made of a luminescent diode. A diode is a component which lets current flow only in one way. A normal bulb lets current flow in both ways. So replacement LED bulbs must have the same behavior than normal bulbs and this is achieved only by non-polarity LED bulbs.

Mitch, see you are still having problems with the shifter, I know they are expensive, but a Taiwan Speed long shifter I think will sort it

Mic I noticed you eliminated the reduction gear boxes. Did you let the transaxle builder know that? Otherwise I wonder if he built a transaxle for a bus with reduction gear boxes. Meaning you would have four reverse gears and one forward gear.

I'm wondering if the gearchange mechanism has been altered so that when you select 2nd, it's Reverse, and 3rd will be First, 4th will be Second, top right (on the gate) selects Third, and selecting the old reverse is actually Fourth! Like this: 1 3 ----+---+ R 2 4

Great progress . Will you be putting down a Matt or carpet in drivers area? That paint doesn’t look like it will hold up in that area. I see you were making patch up already on the paint. Bring on episode 80

Looks like belt needs tightening.

With led lights you might need a couple of diodes in the circuit to stop power leaking back down the other line
