Hi MicBergsma Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your videos with us, also giving us advices/tips. I always enjoyed watching all of your videos and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos! I am deaf too. Thank you! Craig from UK
This is one of the most complicated jobs I've ever seen! Claudio is an incredible craftsman. I can't understand how you don't affect your hands by working the sheet metal with your bare hands!
“finally, the weekend is over!!” said nobody, ever... until now! 😂😂😂
Such fantastic craftsmanship! I only wish I still had my 67 so I could give her this much love! Here’s a little fun fact. After the van had spun a bearing, and was just parked at my farm out west of Krum Tx, my kids loved to play in it. My daughter who was then eight, would make a pic-nik lunch for herself and her two younger brothers. They would all pile into the van and “drive” to their destination. Where are y’all off to I would ask, “we’re going to Italy!” would come an excited reply, or some other place she had picked off the big wall map. Such a wonderful fun filled van! I hope you’re will be filled with great memories too!

So glad you decided to keep this bus, and press on with doing all the repairs! What you learned there in a few weeks watching these guys work, usually takes YEARS to learn on your own. Awesome video as always!!
Claudio's work is amazing.
I enjoyed watching this episode a lot. I'm building a 1960 7-door panel and seeing how other people overcome sheet metal fabrication hurdles is pretty cool.

I don't like MIG spot welding too much, between the spot welds it always leaves gaps where corrosion will start again. Nowadays I use CuSi-3 welding (Mig brazing) for vintage car restorations. The brazing filler metal used melts at 840 degrees Fahrenheit, which is lower than the melting point of the base metals being joined. Due to the lower melting point, the filler metal provides capillary action - fluid being drawn into the weld joint - when brazed, this closes any gap between the two plates being joined. The low melting point of silicon bronze also provides a cooler welding process, putting less heat into the material that is being welded. Reduction in heat input leads to less distortion and the ability to weld on heat-sensitive materials without compromising the physical properties. It is an ideal process for joining thinner metals together, filling gaps, and sheet metal work such as auto body welding. I also find that using Mig brazing results in far less grinding work and no sealant for the welds is needed, both costing time and money. Yes, CuSi-3 wire is more expensive than mild steel wire, but for me, the advantages outweigh the higher cost.

I'm intrigued they don't use a spot welder where it is straightforward. I know nothing about welding, apart from that's how it was originally built.
@rolandleusden
4 жыл бұрын
@@lfo414 I agree that spot welding is like original, however you also need to realize that the manufacturer never had in mind that these cars would become classics. If the car lasted 10 years, they would be happy with it. Restorations are expensive and most owners would like to see their classic car last longer than 10 years, which means you do things sometimes different then the manufacturer.
I’ve really enjoyed your bus resto, Mic! Great stuff.
Excellent video great restoration work and great teaching from you to fulfill a dream, greetings from Mexico.
If you were building a home alone, would be finished by now but this restoration never ended 😀
Good stuff Mitch!!!
