In this video I remove my stock front beam from my 1969 Baywindow Bus. I plan to install a narrowed front beam from California Import Parts - CIP1. I had already installed some drop spindles from EMPI a few weeks earlier and when I test drove it my tires were rubbing on the outside edge of my fenders. I Finally decided to order the narrowed beam that I will install in part two of this video.
Other note, my bus is a 1969 which came stock with drum brakes. I have converted to a disc brake kit from EMPI. That is what pushed my wheels out plus the wheel adapter that I added to allow for the 5x205 bolt pattern. EMPI only allows for a conversion from pre 1971 to 1971 and later wheel hubs. This hub has the smaller 5 bolt pattern I think it’s 5x113. I wanted to keep the vintage wide five bolt pattern that came on the 1968 and ‘69 models.

I just watched this again for the second time. If I just want to drop my beam to clean it. Could I leave the brakes and shocks on. Not really interested in changing the ride height

Oh yeah for sure. Many people do that because they want to change out the entire front end. But it is a lot of work just to do a cleaning. Unless you are gonna do maintenance I would just leave it and use a lot of degreaser. If you are addressing rust issues than yeah drop it.
What was the main reason you removed the beam?

I removed it to replace it with a narrowed adjustable beam

@@juniorclassicvwbugs924 love it works fine. Only two issues so far. I need a new set of torsion bars to stiffen up the suspension since I’m lower so I don’t scrap when I hit dips. The other issue is I need to adjust the steering limiter. Hopefully I can. I need to take a look. My turning radius is shorter than stock
