I've found if I'm replacing the spring anyways, I put the throw-out bearing in first, then you don't have to worry about prying the arm out with your shorty screwdriver idea. Throw-out bearing installed, then spring on the arm.

I took descriptive notes when watching your video and my cross shaft and throughout bearing replacement went smoothly, excellent video and I would remarkably recommend it to those who are looking to repair their own!

Nicely done George! The safety wire is a good idea👍 They also make a HD versions of the cross shaft for various model years, or as mentioned adding a few welds is a good idea, I have seen the arms fail from time to time.

I’ve used the HD one. This is for a bone stock bug that the owner babies. My bus has the Bugpack cross shaft. 👍🏽

I kept replacing throw-out bearings back in the 70's....pulling the engine on the street in Chicago. Now I know why they kept going out!

The misalignment is often overlooked, or creeps up when the arm wears the thinner bushing.

when doing this I like to also put a few spots of weld on the arms. I have seen them crack from the shaft at the welds. cheers

Should have greased the ears on the throw out bearing too.

Should have moved that shim from the left to the right. Otherwise the shaft will float. Anyway, it’s not that critical.

Truth be told, this entire job was completely re-done. When doing this job I was new to filming and working. Things were done two - three times till you captured it on film. My frustration led to looking over details I normally focus on. Flash forward a month and she had a starting issue. When I did a house call to check it out, on the test drive I noticed poor clutch pedal. Brought it back to the shop. Re did the entire job on my dime my time. In the end it was all taken care of. I appreciate your input. 👍🏽
