Thank you very much, that was very nice of you.
A couple other tips for those attempting this install. Set the kit out in the sun to make it more pliable. Also, you can use a piece of copper pipe and heat it up very hot and use it to cut holes (using pliers as it is hot) into the carpet for the seat bolts, etc. It makes a clean cut which is singed around the edges.

Great video! Very few companies offer the factory style cloth binding on their carpet kits. I went with Wolfsburg West just because they offer cloth binding and sewn heater outlet openings on their basic kits. Most original VW carpet kits used nails to attach the carpet on certain edges. Always fun to get the nails back in through new carpet when you can’t see the holes.
@SladesVWBeetle

Dub World The binding edges weren’t too bad on these surprisingly. They do Sell a deluxe set with the holes already cut and bonded. But, I figured I needed to slow down on my spending 😁 I actually pulled some of those nails. And tried to put them back in. After smacking my thumb with a hammer twice, and realizing the glue was good enough. I gave up on them, 😂
back in the 90's i got a gallon of the contact cement an some new turquoise color home carpet like 12ft and i sat inside my 74 doing everything roof ya i took out the headliner ,the pillars ,luggage wells and the floor. it came out awesome !!!! well back then at least. but once its stuck its stuck !!!!!! ahhh memories ....

Slades looking nice. I used that glue when I did the front door pockets. That glue smells strong. I used painter tape to guide me where to apply glue and where to begin installing when I did my other car the 1972 convertible. I like that salt and pepper look.

@@SladesVWBeetle I finished my TMI carpet installation today. I used the Premium kit cuz I'm far less likely to screw things up. What I liked about your job was the way you did the area where the footrest meets the tunnel. I think most people kinda mess that up. I did it you way and am rather pleased with the results. Keep posting..you're a big help.

Great video! Funny, you have 3 passenger foot ramps and I am missing one..haha! That’s life for ya! I have given it some thought and when I get to this point (currently body on rotisserie), I am going to use hook and loop contact cemented in strategic points so I can easily remove it when necessary. I friggin hate all the glue that I had to scrape off to do fab and welding. Thanks Amigo!! Stay safe!
@SladesVWBeetle

I honestly have no idea how I ended up with three of them 🤷🏻♂️. Having yours on a rotisserie is awesome!! I don’t have one of those. Yes I can understand why you say that. I was trying to remove old glue, and I wasn’t saying very nice things. 😁 Thanks for being here!!!
I have done a few of these. TMI is a pretty good kit, just wish it came with some direction. It is like guessing how to put a puzzle together and in which order. I have successfully used the 3M each time. You don't want it to stick too well, as you will likely need to replace it at some point.
Looks great.. that center front one is a real PITA to get straight and right. I got the same carpet kit in mine only in black. I used Gorilla Glue spray in the big tall can and its worked great so far. I only glued the sides and front..none under the seats or on the tunnel due to I have more wires or new wires to run.
@SladesVWBeetle
3 жыл бұрын
Scott S Thanks Scott! I seen the gorilla spray, I was so tempted but I didn’t know anyone that tried it yet. I just bolted my new shifter in today. But I didn’t glue the drivers side down on the floor. As you said, I still might have wires to run. Thanks for being here!!

Thank you so much I truly appreciate it. I was very happy with that kit to be honest with you.
Another great video Slades. I need to put some new carpet in mine in the hood it’s gone and behind the pedals too but everywhere else has it. I went to Rural King and bought some of their $1 carpet rectangles and put those in there works fine. I was going to ask my grandma to make me something like a spare tire and gas tank cover for the front of mine. The original got ruined when it used to leak so they took the carpet out of it.

They sell the kits for under the trunk at the front, but they are not very cheap. I do like TMI, I was pretty happy with the kit. But there are so many people that do their own, from buying a roll of carpet and cutting it themselves.

Good stuff! The car is looking good. Thank you for the recommendations. As someone who is a little ways behind your progress it is much appreciated when honest opinions are given.i think you also talked me into the salt and pepper vs black. What color are your seats?
@SladesVWBeetle
3 жыл бұрын
The Bad Bug thanks very much! The black just shows way too much lint. The salt and pepper really accent the interior of the car. I like it a lot. The seats are black, but almost a light black as odd as that sounds.
Looks sweet.. I used the spray but i think that brush on cement would be better
@SladesVWBeetle

VW RICH FLAT4 I’ve used both. Spray for the headliner is a must. But with the carpeting I definitely noticed the cement was so much nicer. But I would never use that on a headliner.
black and lint, yup. progress takes $$$!

Now that it has been installed for several years, would you still recommend Weldwood? I am just starting the project on my '73 Standard Type 1. What was the name of the better-quality carpet kit? It sounded like "Sofine"?

Hallo Dear,my question to you ! if I have limited budget and i cannot afford high prices for buying such carpet , can i get any other carpet , normal car carpet and I design it in the way that match the car or not possible ???
Good video! I was screaming at the video during the carpet install around the clutch. Next time, use a rubber band to secure clutch to brake so it stops falling back in your way. Otherwise...informative video!!

Are use the spray adhesive, 3M 90, but I only use it on the headliner material. I like using the brush on for the carpet because it’s much stronger. Thanks for commenting.

@@SladesVWBeetle Fantastic. Thank you. It seems I have to refer to all of your videos. The 73 started temporarily. But I am afraid clean the tank, new lines, Carb, fuel pump and brakes are needed. I am also missing left front hood hinge spring. It seems no one has it for 73 Super. But body work/seats would be the last things. My preference is to keep it look old as as is with no repaint.
