Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This week I show HOW TO INSTALL a Empi Front Beam on a VW Classic Beetle. This also incudes a DIY on HOW TO Install Caster Shims on a Classic Beetle. Lowering A Beetle will require caster shims, so you don't get the death wobble at high speeds.

    Thanks my friend!! You may have missed it. On my last video, sadly, three weeks ago I did one on caster shims, and why they’re needed. Truthfully, it helps on highway speeds to keep the car from wondering back-and-forth or sometimes a slight wobble in the steering wheel. They are so helpful. Even with stick beans. Thank you for always being here.

    (I am not an expert, but...) because you replace the bolts with longer ones, does it make sense to remove one bolt, put in a new one (loose) then do the same for the second bolt? You then would have more slack to install the shims ...easier???

    @@SladesVWBeetle You're going to like the motorcycle jack, when you start using it around the garage.You can add a adapter like okfixer has, on the jack to make it reach the engine stand . Your back and knees will appreciate it. Sorry, your engine stand is different than mine, so you will need to create a different setup to add & remove the engine from the standard with the motorcycle jack.

    @5:22 Where did you get that cool wiring diagram? Great video, now I have to go check my steering box positioning and adjustment because you got me thinking about it. In your previous video I think you said that the shims can be used with a stock beam, yes? I have lowering spindles, nothing more, so will the shims make a difference on highway stability anyway?

  • @SladesVWBeetle

    @SladesVWBeetle

    Actually, one of the club members purchased that wiring diagram and sent it to me. I thought that was very kindhearted to do. I’m not sure where he got it. It’s vinyl. It’s nice to put the shims on a stock being, because there wasn’t enough caster on them from the factory. It helps on the highways over 60 mph, where it stops it from wandering around.

    After installing 2.5" drop spindles, I also added the shim's on my 56, and immediately noticed the front wheels are no longer centered in the wheel well.. they are forward by more than 2".. i'm struggling with this as my ADHD doesn't like it not being centered.. Since I'm still in the restoration stage, after the vehicle is complete, and I can do a test drive.. I might try pulling them out just to see if there is a steering problem.. I've read several posts where folks don't run the shims and don't have any issues.. anyone else have a dropped front end not running shims? What kind of experience do you have?

  • @SladesVWBeetle

    Now see, I’m the same way. If I noticed the wheels are not sitting evenly inside of the fender, it will drive me insane!!! 🙄 The shims help at highway speeds over 60 mph. It stops it from wandering around the road. Is easy as it is it’s probably worth trying it with and without the shims.
