VW Audi ABS control module replacement and programing / coding DIY by Edge Motors

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

ABS module is a common problem in most VW and Audi, dont try to rebuild it, wont last long or will come back from a rebuilding place with a different problem...
PLEASE "LIKE" THIS VIDEO!!!
In this video we show you how to replace, recode and adapt ABS control module on most VW and Audi models with bosh ABS control modules up to 2005.
this includes 1998-2005 VW Passats Audi A4 A6, newer models will have the same procedures, but with more basic settings involved.
we had allot of problems with rebuilt units from different suppliers, that's why we suggest getting a new module or if the cost is too much like for the customer in the video than the best best bet is oem used.
most coding information you can find at Ross-tech.com or in a bentley manual.
NOTE: b5 audi s4 ABS control module is different and located under back seat. Allroad ABS control system is also different from a6 models and will require different procedures.

Very informative! On 1:21 you are testing the new module itself without the pump. My abs unit has the control module and pump connected by two wires. Do I then have to connect the whole unit to test and cannot test just the module itself like you are doing? Tnx

Sooo well, i have a couple of codes on my 04 A3 2.0fsi, amongst others steering angle not set correcty, the abs light is on, and the abs does not work, plus the traction control light is on. These codes and lights dis not appear at the same time, but is it probably my abs module that is broken? Thanks :)

I own a 09 VW Jetta 2.5L and my ABS control module 1K0614517BD 1K0907379AD failed back in December of 2019 but had been replaced through VW's recall program back in 2017. I brought it to the local VW dealer in Staten Island, NY and they couldn't or wouldn't help me. In December of 2019, I bought 2 used control modules on eBay which didn't work because the VW engineer in Germany said these modules are married to each vehicle and not transferable unless it's rebuilt or bought new. Now I noticed in your comment saying to never buy a rebuilt module because of problems but buying a new one is too expensive. I was told and saw it online for $1700.00, can you recommend where I can buy a new one at a decent price? Thanks for the video and your help.

Great Video! Hey I'm having trouble with an abs module on a 2001 audi a4 b5. The abs light is on and the brake light is blinking. With the module not connected the car can communicate with VCDS. But with the abs module connected VCDS can only talk to a few modules, or sometimes not any. I have tried two different abs modules and they all do the same thing. I did have the abs module connect one time, and I still have that module on the car, but I just can't connect again. Do you think its a wiring issue or is there a relay that might be blown? Thanks again!

Thanks for posting this, I have a unique problem with my 2006 Audi a6.The brakes failed completely 3 times.I replaced the master cylinder 2 times and still I have no brake pressure and no leaks. I have a traction control light on, after the first master cylinder replacement the brakes engaged and would smoke from dragging on the rotor. Later they let go of the rotor, lost pressure and brake pedal now falls to the floor and the vehicle won't stop. I took it to 3 other mechanics and the dealer looked at it but wanted a lot of money to replace several parts at a time to find the issue. One clue in this video that's similar!!! the abs will not communicate with the vag-com. I think you may have helped me out. I'm going to replace the unit, have it programmed and let you know if that was the problem. Thanks again

The abs has nothing to do with the fact that you have no pressure. When you bleeding brakes after the master cylinder replacement, does fluid come out strong from the bleeders?

Ok thanks,I left out a few details in my post. This problem started with a loud beep,Traction control light and parking brake malfunction, the brakes engaged by themselves, dragged then shortly after failed lost all pressure and could not stop the car. I had the master cylinder replaced. The brakes worked normally for about a month. Then the same scenario all over again. We assumed the aftermarket M.C. was defective, replaced it again, worked for about a month and for the 3rd time it all happened again.I had the M.C. bench bled and the system bled yesterday. It did not work however I do know the abs mod will not communicate with the VAG-COM I now think the ABS module and the master cylinder are the issue. any Ideas?

my 1998 golf ABS system seems to have gone nuts. The ABS dashboard light randomly goes on and off, and (which is more scary) when I set my foot over the brake pedal, sometimes I feel and hear the ABS pumping, no matter how gently I am braking. On your experience, do you think these symptoms point to a defective ABS module? thanks.

Instead of guessing, you will need a VAGCom scan tool or buy the VAGCom software and run it on a laptop with an OBDII to usb cable and scan for codes which will tell you where to start troubleshooting. Matter of fact, if any of this over your head, find a mechanic that can do it or simply just burn the car. Used Audi/VW ownership and maintenance is not for the faint of heart. They're great cars when working, but when not, only the competent and resourceful DIY'ers survive.

Maybe u can help me. I have an Audi A4 2005 and the ABS control module isn't functioning or communicating with the check engine light which is on and the abs light is also on. I can not pass the smog test in ca. Where I live because of this and so I went to a repair shop and he said the new audi abs module is close to 3500 which I dont want to spend. So then he said he can get a used one to match the car exactly. But when he did he told me he was having problems programing it to me car. Then he said he couldn't find a place that rebuilds asb modules for a 2005 audi in the states which I thought was odd and then he said there is a place in Canada he knows of that will rebuild the pump and module. Does this sound legit to have to send my abs module to Canada to get rebuilt? Do you know of somewhere closer to cal.? Is a rebuilt module and pump a reliable way to go if I don't buy one new? Thanks for your help. Debbie

+Scotty Kilmer granted... It is very truth. That's how they make sure to make money in long run... Look at the "component protection" now.... It does remove it automatically, if the part is brand new... But if the part is used, you going to have a trip to the dealer which will charge you couple of hundred to remove it... That way they make sure that they make money even on used parts:))) I can remove component protection, but it still cost me money,

+Scotty Kilmer My crown vic has a similar looking module, even in the same place. Ford requires a similar procedure too, on the newer cars. No wonder why there is such a big market for china hack scan tools. The tools are junk and break but even so it is WAY cheaper than what a dealer would charge. I'm in upstate NY and felt worse last month when I replaced a brake hose and ended up replacing the front line on the left side when both flare nuts were siezed due to rust. Even the coated line didn't help :(/.

Would the brakes feel mushy if it was just the module? I am not loosing brake fluid at all, but my error code says ABS Hydraulic Pump leak. I am tempted to buy a fully rebuilt unit pump, module, the whole thing from Europe just to rule it all out. I am just not sure what to do. There is a place in the states that will rebuild the module but not the pump.

I have an error code 01276 in which my Audi Code reader shows that as ABS Hydraulic Pump Leak. However, I am not leaking brake fluid (that I can see or find) my reservoir is full and all that. My brakes do feel a bit weak or mushy if that makes sense. I've been doing so much research and there is so much conflicting data. I have read that this is usually just the module that goes bad, and simply replacing it or having it rebuilt will solve my issues. That way I just leave the pump and distribution block connected so I don't have to not drive it or worry about bleeding the brakes. However, the old school mechanic in me tells me if the actual brakes feel mushy then there must be air in the system. But, I have read that a faulty module can send mixed signals to the pump, and it can actually release pressure, just like it does when it is working on slick roads when you are stopping, so causing the weaker brakes. Here is my issue, a new unit is close to $2,000 + the labor and Audi coding it. The only rebuilt ones (which are few) are all over in Europe and are $400 - $500 + shipping (great deal really). The other option would be to buy a full used unit and hope for the best. I do know regardless a trip to Audi is required to "code" the new unit. I did find a company in UT that can rebuild just the module, but not the pump. I am sure they could probably just test my module to see if its bad. Questions: What is the chances that this is just the Module being bad? I mean can a faulty module actually change the pressure in the peddle? Or am I truly looking at a bad pump? I am just trying to find out what the real issue is. Because if its the module only, I can have that rebuilt and leave the pump and all that connected to the vehicle. If its the pump/block, I can just buy a used unit and have all of that swapped out, but I could actually still use my factory module and not have to worry about a trip to the dealer to reprogram a new Module. Any advise or assistance would be great.

I guess my main question is, if I bought a full used unit, the whole thing, could I install it and have it re-coded to my Q7? I have had an independent shop, and the Audi dealership both tell me they are "burned" into the until and cannot be re-coded, to prevent theft of parts. That only a brand new "blank" one or a rebuilt one that is whipped clean can be used. Is this true?

Sounds like a wheel speed sensor fault. Find the correct part and replace it. If you didn't see this fault with the original ABS module, it's possible the module was faulty to begin with, which i'm assuming is why you replaced it (and watched this video).

Any chance that I can replace a ABS module/pump and bleed the brakes and start the car and leave ? Without programming or coding ?

+Dylan Weiss well. if you erase the codes, and then later on the abs light comes back on, it should set a code. see what the code says... you might of did a steering wheel angle sensor calibration when the wheel was not straight, or yo might need wheel alignment... so read the codes....

+EDGEMOTORS hey buddy I had a quick question if you could give me some advice.... I have a 01 audi a4 and had a bad abs module (had abs+brake lights on dash) and I sent it out for repair and when I got it back and plugged it in the lights weren't on anymore but now when I brake sometimes I'm getting vibration in the pedal as if the abs was engaging, no matter how soft or hard I brake. Any ideas would be a great help and appreciated. thanks and great video, it helped a bunch!

I have a 2004 A4 Quattro, my speedometer and tachometer don’t work, brake light flashes and ABS light stays on. I’ve read that the abs module being bad can and will stop the tach and speedo from working, anyone have any more information on it that’s true or not? I’ve checked all my fuses, all good, no check engine light, and the rest of the cluster works perfectly, it’s only the speedo and tach. I bought the car at 113k miles (it’s been stuck on 115k now)

Maybe you already found your answer, but in most cases the previous ABS module was faulty (or else why replace it?), and it will not communicate with the VAG COM software, so there's no way to check the coding. I just went through the exact same thing today with mine.

it's gotten to the point where you need to be a software programmer and hold a p.h.d . in physic a to wrench on a car now. So expensive to fix cars now. Don't buy a car from a manufacturer that won't warranty all parts 100,000 miles/6 years.

  • @HagakureJunkie
    @HagakureJunkie6 жыл бұрын

What are you talking about? Rebuilt? Module Masters offers a 5 year warranty on their ABS module repair. And I for fuck sure am not buying a $1300 abs module to place in a $4000 car.

  • @EDGEMOTORS

What kind of car you have? I have used many different companies to rebuild the modules, and the success rate was no more than 50% meaning they would either be bad from the start or go bad with in next year, yes some of them went bad in couple of years.... but we talking on a scale that you replace one module in a your lifetime, I replaced hundreds of them, and if even 10% of them come back bad, I look bad in my customers eyes, and loose allot of money on redoing the work. And FYI a abs control module for older Audi’s and Vw are around 500-600$ new from dealer, and always were. The 1300$ is complete abs unit, not a module. You need a repair kit, also bosh makes them even cheaper.

And it don’t matter what kind of warranty you I get for it. I still have to redo the labor... most of the companies that we sealed with has a life time warranty on modules...
