Hey there, thanks for sharing. I work mostly in high-rise buildings that use water source heat pumps instead of the conventional air-cooled condenser. Patrons often ask me to reduce ductwork high to accommodate cabinets, ceilings, or appliances. So, after seeing this video, I think that replacing some or all of the ductwork with refrigerant lines sounds like a nice solution to this problem; however, nothing was said about water source indoor condensers applied to this technology. Are they available? Thank you.

Thanks for sharing, the pricing of VRF systems is very expensive compare to inverter heat pumps systems with multi zones, also the COP in the wintertime is low about 1.2 (-22f ) I think that the only difference is that the VRF system can heat and cool at the same time by sending the discharge refrigerant into the distribution cassette and to the specific area, so inverter-based heat pumps are my choice, again thanks for the video, and if you don't agree with my point of view please feel free to answer.

Thank you for your comment! Although the price of these types of systems can be more expensive than some, Nortek’s Mini VRF is very competitively priced. When factoring in the cost (not to mention problems) of zoning damper systems, the pricing is actually in line or cheaper depending on the system configuration. Additionally, these systems are now rated to -31°F, providing heating at far lower temperatures than traditional-style inverter heat pumps. The COP of a 3ton Mini VRF with 69.8°F IAT and -31°F OAT is 1.965, or nearly twice as energy efficient as traditional electric heating. In fact, depending on local gas energy rates, it’s cheaper to run this heat pump, well below 0°F, than even a gas furnace. One side note: most VRF systems, particularly in single phase, are not capable of providing heating and cooling at the same time. These types of systems, with changeover boxes, are commonly referred to as “Heat Recovery” systems.

@@EdgeTekHVAC Many thanks for your answer, I do believe that VRF will be cheaper but a 3-ton inverter-based heat pump is a lot cheaper than 3 Ton VRF heat pump, I would be grateful f you can send me a link to a VRF Unit that confirm your facts both COP and pricing, many thanks.

so what happens if I need 3 tons upstairs and 2 tons downstairs and you undersized my condenser???? this is very confusing. you just pretended like you wouldnt always need 3 ton upstairs but the heat load called for 3 tons upstairs and 2 tons downstairs.... ???? gonna be having a bunch of service calls because one area isnt getting cool/reaching setpoint at full heat load conditions... bad practice????
