Take me back to the ESC with live music wherein back up singers and orchestra came together to celebrate real ESC advocacy!

This song, unlike many others from this particular year, has aged wonderfully. Ruth brings energy, confidence and the arrangement really is a gem.

She still is after all those years. Eurovision made her a big star in the Netherlands.

Listening to the song in todays context - wow :-)

This would have been a worthy winner, in fact I think it could have won just about any other year in the early 90s. 1993 was just very strong - Ireland was beautiful and the UK was brilliantly performed and catchy.

I.remember this as a 17 year old! Amazing then..Still Amazing!! Top 3 for Sure!! Love from Dublin xxx

This song deserved to win, it was a music proposition for that period in the contest, out of the irish balands comfort zone.

A song as cool and catchy as it is smart. Really clever lyric and a fantastic performance from all involved. Finished 6th but should've been top-3. Did the juries seriously think that France and the UK were better than this?

Well, 1993 was a very very strong year in my opinion. There are 11 or 12 good songs that could have reasonably won that year, I think.

Agree, hated the French song and loved this. At the time there was something quite groundbreaking about this song but the juries were quite conservative in those days.

What a fabulous performance - I remember it vividly - loved it - I'm reminiscing about Eurovision as I've been watching since 1974 when I was 10 - still a huge fan 😊

this should have got a higher place at the eurovision in 1993 at least should have come 1st or 2nd.

I gave this song 12 points in 1993, the first time that I gave 12 points to a song from The Netherlands. It is still one of my all-time favourites even now (in 2018).

1993 had some great songs and this was top 3 worthy, I find switzerland, france and norway dull and I'm a ballad lover , the english version is really good too , her voice is so great !!!!

I think the Netherlands has entered some fabulous songs over the years - Ruth was great , Humphrey and his brothers were great the year before. It is such a pity that after Ding a Dong the country had to wait all those years until Duncan for another win. I liked it when most countries sang in their own language as it gave the contest such an international feel and although it was more expensive to stage perhaps with the rehearsal time needed I liked the live orchestra which gave a sense of occasion.

The song is an absolute gem, deserves to win, blah blah, but those last 10 seconds are just wonderous.

The RTE were quite unfortune to get the stage lights blackout the picture in this and the Spanish entries. But the performance is great and the song is very good and catchy. Modern for it’s time at the ESC. 12 points!

The lighting for this entry was terrible (bad RTE) however it was also a bad idea to end the song on a slow, low-key note .

I swim against the stream. I think this and Better the devil you know are one of the most overrated songs in ESC history.
