Votty and Bowydd Quarry breathtaking artifacts

The final day of the Welsh mine trip and to begin the day we go searching for the access to Votty and Bowydd Quarry. After an hour or so we find an opening that leads us to the mined area.

Wow what a spectacular find, well done to you, hope the lassie's leg was ok. Lots of questions to ask if I may. 1) what was being mined, slate? 2)why so many buildings almost like crude residences? 3) how old would the mine be? 4) Had it suffered collapse in many areas? 5) Did you find the original entrance? exit? or how they got the material out? Sorry, but just found it so facsinating. Regards, Tony.

Yes it was slate being mined, the buildings are next to an incline going an unknown depth so there were winches to raise the carts up the inclines, buildings for electricity and the one with the roof was probably a kaban for the miners lunch and tea breaks. Mine was 1830 to 1963. Some of the collapses are due to modern disturbance from mining above. The original entrance has been list due to the same modern mining above.
