These are excellent binos but do have a pretty steep price point. We wanted to share some more info about these and the prism along with a basic overview compared other models that are similar as well.

That image looks just like the Vortex Razor HD 12x50.

If you only have money for the Diamondbacks don't get them get the video call the yellow stones Costco version you can find them for cheap or the Leopold Rainier HD binoculars made for Costco or the bx2 Alpine HD binoculars from Leupold I owned a pair of Diamondbacks and the Leopold binoculars outperform them the glass is much clearer edge, I also owned a pair of Leopold bx4s that outperform the razors. I have looked through the razor uhds and I was very impressed the picture is so bright which is what I like and I agree it would be a big jump from the razors. I have a pair of Leopold bx5s coming they have the same prism you mentioned the razor uhds having I haven't had a chance to compare them but I'm hoping they're on par with the razor uhds because the uhds are very impressive

I think only the 15x56 bx5 Leopold binocular uses the prism you mentioned

Mark thank you so much for taking the time to watch and share your knowledge. The options you mentioned sound like they are worth looking into more. What I like about the diamondbacks is their weight as I believe they are 7 ounces lower than BX2’s. I like the original diamondbacks as well as I was also able to find them pretty cheap and BX2’s were harder to find used which is probably a sign they are better. I did look through 12 power BX2’s and thought they were fine but if going over 10 power would want BX4 glass and above. I also loved the BX4’s and think for $500 new they are hard to beat was sad when they raised price to $600 retail but still a great Japanese bino! I definitely prefer them over the Vipers and razor mainly beat them in FOV for me. I’m glad we both think the UHD is a big jump. I know most say the change gets smaller as you get more expensive but I truly thought it was a substantial jump. Let me know how you like the BX5’s. I would be curious to hear your thoughts after testing so many binos. They seem like a great option for being super lightweight and a great image. I’m currently testing a 10x30 option and it’s definitely an interesting option as well. -Kyle

Awesome thank you for the reply I've owned the Diamondbacks and I purchased a pair of the Yellowstone binoculars by Leopold for my kids for very cheap and the image quality is so much better if I remember correctly pretty much the whole Leupold lineup suffers from a small field of view but I'm willing to exchange that for a more enjoyable image quality. The bx4s that I had were 12 power and there's really good glass in those binoculars those also suffered from the small field of view, I own the 20 power kaibabs and I like those a lot the pictures just too dark for me. When I receive the 15 power bx5s I'll try to remember to let you know what I think about them I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed as far as being comparable to the razor UHD. You are right the UHD version is a very big jump from the regular razor I was very surprised when I looked through them.

@@marke.8334 Great info! Those sound like great binos for kids. I can’t imagine 20 power binos but I bet you can see a long ways! Hope you enjoy those BX5’s thanks again for all the info.

Although this is nice glass that uses AK prisms, the light transmission is almost the same at the HD with SP prisms. They really aren’t significantly brighter than the HD version, and the image quality is almost identical with the HD version is more compact. Save your money.

Vortex seems really overpriced for what you get compared to other brands out there. Example the SIG Zulu 9s (9x45/11x45 ) similar to/same Kamakura OEM as the Vortex Razor UHD/Maven B series-Abbe Koenig were on sale for under $600 at Midway USA.

That sig Zulu deal was incredible.. Vortex does seem priced higher but sometimes on sale and comes with a nice harness. This was during the day in hit Florida sun so I didn’t think the footage was that great. I should have spent more time getting footage. When using these off and on I did think they were close to sig Zulu and Mavens but would still go with Maven B2 if I had the choice. I did like they were a classic 10x42 as well. It look like the sig Zulu 10 is now 10x42 so that would be a great comparison with the UHD 10x42. Thanks for stopping by. -Kyle
