You taught me a new trick there with the jubilee clip! Kicking my own arse around the workshop here as I’ve never thought of that before and can think of all the skin and blood I’ve lost over the years fighting those springs. Every day’s a school day they say. Thanks teacher! 😉

Best explaination and tricks to fix the XC-90 parking brake that never worked on my vehicle that I brought 2 yrs ago . As an engineer I could not believe Volvo would sell a top of the line vehicle with a problem like that...but they did...thanks for a DIY solution!

Two years ago I scoured YT for this info and spent hours watched over a dozen vids - none of which described the process/mechanism as well and as complete as this one. I managed to do the job, but only to get the car pass MOT and never could get it stationary on a hill with just parking brake on. I need to redo this job now as the cable is acting funny lately - and I'm so glad I found this video. Thank you and I'm sure this video will benefit hundreds and thousands DIY mechanics battling with XC90 parking brakes. Namo Amituofo

Thanks!. This is one of the best clips I’ve seen. Mine is a 2004 but mech is still pretty much the same. Refurbished the shoes etc last night and by far the longest, trickiest bit was figuring out the adjust cable. Thank God for clips like these.

Thankyou. I fixed my low mileage parking brake in about the same time as your video - 30 mins. I did undo all the seat bolts, lifted the seat up and tilted it back. That made it super easy. I really like how the left passenger footwell panel cover just pulls off. Super easy Volvo XC90.

I did the same several years ago. T's the only way to get a working handbrake on the XC90. I tried to get the adjusters from the local volvo stealer in Belfast but the parts store denied knowing anything about this fix. Even when I gave them the part numbers they told me that they have to be ordered in. I ended up sourcing the parts from fleabay. Another great production Dave.

The parking brake is terrible on these XC90s. Despite this it is easy enough to get it through the MoT. Those H pieces are absolutely useless. I fitted the adjustable type to my own XC90. The reason for using genuine shoes is because there is a chamfer on the curve of the shoes (the top and bottom in the installed position) and some aftermarket shoes don't have this. It is possible to adjust the cable with the seats in situ if you move them all the way back but is is a 2 minute job to remove the 2 bolts at the front and tip the seat back. EDIT: I've recently managed to get the parking brake to hold. I finally adjusted the shoes properly and it holds better than it has ever been since I bought my XC90 in July 2021

Great video, easy to follow and full of useful information, I like the jubilee clip idea. May I ask where you got the measuring callipers. I may be missing the obvious but I had a look around and could not see any information on them. It must be hard work preparing and editing the videos and I am indebted to all of those who take the trouble to produce them.

Hi dav enjoy your channel. This question may seem a bit cheeky but wondering if you’d be interested in replacing a flywheel and other clutch components on a 2013 v60. Obviously would pay you for your time and parts etc but was thinking you also might enjoy whatever KZread benefits might come from a Video like this. l haven’t been able to find any similar work on a v60. There’s a lot of v50s and 70 stuff out there, but not much on these great wee cars.

yeah, xc90 got the worst handbrake ever, if handbrake passes MOT it's just barely. Even MOT guy said they never seen XC90 with strong handbrake - it's their achilles heel.
