UPDATED video kzread.info/dash/bejne/n3ifuJiFh5zeccY.html If your brake lights still don't work, the lower lights are related to a black box fuse in the REM, while the upper LED brake light is related to the CEM

I followed your instructions for removing the switch but the brake pedal lever prevented me from moving the white sleeve far enough forward even when the brake pedal was fully depressed. . After some thought, I removed a rear wheel and forced the brake pads away from the brake disk. This meant that some brake fluid passed into the brake reservoir. Then I could push the brake pedal further forward than its normal position (and I used a piece of wood between the brake pedal and the frame of the driver's seat to hold the pedal down). With a pair of long nose pliers I could now slide the white sleeve far enough forward that the switch could be withdrawn. In my car (Volvo 940) it is very difficult to see the rear of the switch so I taped a small mirror to the bodywork to provide a view of the rear of the switch. Thank you for posting your videos.

Thanks very much for posting this, I had just installed a new brake booster in my Volvo XC90 and the brake light would not turn off. After watching your video I was able to make a very quick adjustment to the switch by pushing the body which fixed the problem and saved me a lot of time and frustration! Thanks

I had just been servicing my S60's Brake Booster and then after getting everything back together, I couldn't get the Brake Lights to go out. This video was a GodSend, and in the end, all I had to do was depress the Brake Pedal and then push in the end of the Switch as was described here. I watched the video about 4 times . . . . but it saved me an immense amount of time all skrunched up under that S60 dashboard. Thanks for posting this visual at this time !

I don't know if you are still reading comments on this 5 yr old video, but thank you. I just finished replacing my heater core (2006 V70R) and couldn't figure out the brake switch reinstallation (I had accidentally tampered with the adjustment when I removed it) Your video was concise and exactly what I needed to know to reinstall it. It took about 3 minutes after watching your video. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

Your video was explained very well. We had work done on our xc90 and when came home, car would no longer come out of Park. I found your video and after following your directions carefully, I connected the switch correctly and now the brake lights, brakes and transmission work as they should. Your video was a lifesaver!

This explanation and troubleshooting solved my problem completely. It took a lot of searching for the correct answer but this was a $25 simple fix. Thanks.

Thank you for this one also. Just came over from Bigtime McAlpine's steering rack vid. and you provided the torque spec I was looking for in the comments to that one. Got the three pedal box in my M66 swap. Putting things back together is a little more nuanced than taking apart!

Auto to manual swap ? Great to hear. These engines greatly needed manual transmissions. Sadly, manual gearboxes come with the very weak internal slave cylinder, better installing a new one while the box is out. Should be good for the next 50.000 miles or so, depending on clutch usage. I'd also suggest sharing the swap info on forums such as Matthews Volvo and Volvo Owners Club Forum UK. I think these cars will become a choice for long term preservation

Thank you for this Video. Volvo has been using the same system it seems for decades it seems. And I've been looking for a simple guide for my older Volvo on how to disconnect it without breaking the delicate plastic parts and how the self adjustment works.

Excellent video and explanation. I wish I had watched it sooner. I snapped a tab prying out the original one and then found that professional parts Sweden had sold me the wrong switch. I had to use tab side of the new switch with the plug half of the old switch and clean the internal contacts of the old switch. Just another challenge for an American in Detroit to keep my 04 V70R in perfect working order

Thanks! Thought mine was broke. I adjusted the length still installed. Not the best idea but it worked to fix my brake lights and cruise control. Driving across the US so you just saved me. :)

THIS is the ONLY video I could understand as there aren't very many at all pertaining to this. It would have been perfect if there was more understanding of where the metal frame is suppose to be when part in place as I can't get mine out . I understand the pressing of tabs when sleeve up ,but how do you get the part out when the plastic which is like arms is larger than the whole in the metal frame? A visual who truly complete this informative much appreciated video. Thank you for what you have shared!

On my XC70, left and right brakes lights don't light up but the top led one does. I've inspected connections and bulbs at the light clusters and they all check out OK. Even tried replacing relays at the module at the side of the trunk. Any ideas?

Keep the pedal down, push behind the unit to bring the black pin fully out, pull the sleeve fully out, remove the unit. This is the remake, quite a bit faster kzread.info/dash/bejne/n3ifuJiFh5zeccY.html
