You don't need to rip off the dial surround, just undo the screw underneath the steering wheel.

2005 stalks and up will fit right in BUT as soon as you plug it in the headlighs will come on (with no car running) and stay on .the turn clicker wont do anything but flicker the headlights and you wont be able to turn them off . i didnt unplug the battery and NO SRS light or check engine light came on in my 2004 V70

Today I wanted to replace the turn signal stalk of my S60 by another one I got from the yunkyard. The stalk came out of a Volvo S80 of the same model year. The two stalks look exactly the same. Unfortunately the new stalk didn't fit. I tried several times. It's like there is something that blocks the new stalk from entering in the steering colom. First I thought that it could be the electrical pins being bent. So I changed them out with the pins from the old one. Still the new stalk refused to go into the steering colom. Then I gave up and put my old one back in. I even went to a Volvo dealer with the two stalks. They said that the 2 stalks were exactly the same so it should fit. But no matter what I did I couldn't get it to fit into the steering colom. Do you know what could be the cause of this?

Thank you so much, mine is misbehaving, need to replace it. Say again what you said at the end of the video about swapping stalks and model year?

From what I've seen, 2001-2003 stalk use a different electronics than 2004-2009 stalks. I'm not sure if it was changed in 2004 or 2005. They can still be installed, but some of the functions won't work. I put a 2006 stalk on my 2003 and the computer button didn't work and the head lights high beam stayed on. So not interchangeable. @@Peppermint1 Yeah, wasn't paying attention to the year model I got this off of and nothing works and headlights are on high beam always. ;-(

not correct ! did this on a break at work and didn't undo the battery no issue what so ever and no srs or check engine light light

These don't require programming so I would check again the connectors, and make sure it's the same model - Volvo put a different stalk starting from around 2004

Is the wiper stalk the same process?
