    Confirmed.. this is absolutely a "thing." I wonder if this is a "trick" that's not supposed to work or if this is just an easter egg sort of hidden launch control thing they don't tell us about. Either way, what's happening here is that when bumped to 2nd gear and stabbed to the floor (through the indent), this "trick" gets around the 2000RPM lockout that takes place when you try this just in D, S, or 1st gear. When performing the launch from a manually selected 2nd gear, it immediately shifts down to 1st gear when you hit the indent switch on the throttle, but without the ECU limiting power/boost/rpm buildup. Tire chirp and hard pull from a dig even at 7500ft elevation confirmed in the 2012 S60 T6 I just bought used (~145K miles) a few months ago. This trick probably shaves at least 0.5seconds from a 0-60 run.

    Finally, someone with facts vs. opinions. Technically, this shouldn't void your warranty, is there anything written saying that doing this would void it? Plus, the car went into first when he "wanted" it in second.

  • @EDHBlvd

    The transmission is an auto with a torque converter. From what I understand Volvo said the S60/V60's Polestars can do launch control all day as there is no clutch to burn out.

  • @youjustgottadrum

    @youjustgottadrum

    7 жыл бұрын

    autos still have tons of clutch packs in them, the converter just holds the power and releases it (amps the power transfer) it also feeds the pump and sends the power to input shaft. you can still burn out the clutches. that is why you can upgrade the solenoids and up the psi to engage harder to limit clutch slip, etc. if you do not abuse it, and launch it correctly, and keep your trans in good shape, it will be fine. once your fluid is burnt, you are done.

    The boost in brake boosting doesn’t refer to turbo boost. It’s just building rpms to launch in an auto car. Any auto trans can brake boost. Usually you need some sort of anti-lag or custom map to build boost for launching from a standstill. In any event, this didn’t work in my 08 s80.
