Volvo’s secret formula to consistently produce gorgeous cars

Volvo is the last automotive manufacturer left in Sweden and, by definition, the only carmaker that can create authentic Scandinavian design.
Today, Volvo makes some of the best designed and most elegant cars in the world.
And they’ve been doing it for decades. So what’s the secret? It all comes down to the core values of the brand and its solid foundation in Scandinavian lifestyle and design.

Bauhaus is actually German not Scandinavian, but their design philosophy is very similar and very respectable. I always loved Volvos and Saabs growing up, their styling is unique, authentic, timeless, and purposeful. Today I own a Polestar after owning a few German cars and I love it! This new EX90 looks more like an enlarged XC60 from the side, which is fine by me. The rear taillights doesn’t have a true light bar as it is not fully illuminated (only a blacked out non-functioning bar) which is a shame as it doesn’t really serve a purpose which is going against their design ethos.

My thoughts exactly. The EX90 has so many unnecessary features and it also lacks some things that make it actually look like a Volvo, this will be their new design direction, and I’m not sure I like it. The overall generic look also doesn’t go well with the gimmicky interior

In my opinion, Volvo design reached its peak with the P2 platform cars (early to mid 2000s). They found so many ways to make their cars simple, elegant and timeless but thoroughly modern, also, because of the less strict regulations of the time, the proportions of all of them were absolutely perfect. To this day they haven’t been able to recreate that sleek simplicity that made the P2 cars, especially the first S60 and XC90, absolute milestones of modern car design. Even on their current generations you can see they are clearly are evolution of those designs

I have to say, although a lot of clever analysis, I disagree strongly on two points. First; I think the interior is absolutely gorgeous, it's more cozy than a tesla, and the dashboard is spot on. The front however (and partly the rear corners) I feel look fat and blobby, it doesn't look half as sleek and elegant as the current xc90/v90 line-up. The grill sticks out and it has a huge lower lip, that sticks out like a muscle car, it's just weird.

Sure, the design was originally a Volvo concept, as was the Polestar 1, but they were never launched as Volvos, instead being launched as Polestars. As far as independence goes: I believe Volvo is still the majority owner and all Polestars are manufactured in Volvo factories. Though they do are getting ever more independent, especially design wise. Polestar 3 technically being the EX90 but design wise being far from it. And eg the Polestar 5 and 6 will be quite their own thing.

@@fredlabonte8946 First thing I have to mention is that you probably should go back to school, although Volvo is owned by a private Chinese company in this case Geely that still doesn't change that Volvo still makes great cars with gorgeous design's. For example if you look at manufacturers like Lamborghini, Scania, and Bugatti then all of them are ¨german manufacturers¨ since VW group owns them but they all have different origins. Lamborghini is from Italy, Scania is from Sweden and Bugatti is from France. But we never really consider these brands as German automakers. Back to the topic of Volvo, they definitely made more ¨tank¨ like cars before the purchase by Geely group some examples of these are 240, 260, 740 and 940. But as we continue into the race for the most technologically advanced car then it's a clarity that things are less reliable. Also since everything is about pleasing shareholders then materials such as plastic will always be used unless we find a cheaper material with the same functions. All things said Volvo is still a great car brand that has amazing design and world class safety. A last message to you since I think you're from Sweden: Du är säkert 10 år gammal och tror att du vet allt, men du har nog inte ens kört bil. Men först gå till skolan och försök att lyssna och inte tramsa bort din tid som du säkert gör. Samt viktigt med att lära dig Engelska ifall du vill snacka med folk i ditt favorit spel forre, eller på internet över huvud taget.

There's nothing Volvo can do now to get me to even consider buying their product, now that they jumped on the bandwagon with the mandatory buzzy 2.0 4cyl. I expect the only reason they aren't forcing the miserable CVT on us is that they're eliminating petrol engines completely and jumping on the "save the planet!" EV bandwagon. I'm so disappointed in Volvo.

Not fully true. Geely owns a large part of it, but Volvo is incorporated in Sweden and has all its R&D in Sweden and is noted on the Swedish stock exchange with everything that comes with that. They can’t blindly do what Geely wants them to do. They have to work in the interest of all of their stock holders. (For the sake of it even I bought a couple of stocks in Volvo Cars)

@@PelleWessman Geely owns ALL of Volvo, Polestar and Lotus. They are free to incorporate anywhere but profits still go back to mainland China. The biggest bulk of the their actual manufacturing is in China (for all their brands) Geely purchased the volvo saftey research center from Ford along with all of their assets including design studios. Are they still designed in Sweden? Sure, but that along with some suspension tuning from Polestar are really the only things left for the Swedes to do. After the XC90, V90 and S90 get replaced all volvo/polestar cars will be riding on Geely engineered platorms as those still ride on the SPA platform financed by Ford. You can believe a brand is still "Swedish" or "White" but at the end of the day ALL the profits go back to China to help support the CCP and uncle Xi's nonsense plan of world domination. Stop supporting the CCP and buy better products not owned by dictatorships and countries not friendly to your own.
