Volvo OVERHEATING issues = dead water pump!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Don't ever cheap out on a water pump, or let your mechanic install one with a plastic impeller.
This example was on a 2005 Volvo S80 T6 FWD with the inline 6 cylinder B6294T engine. This was part of a major maintenance including timing belt service and full tune up. This can happen on all the 5 and 6 cylinder transversely mounted engines, turbo or not. Don't forget about ipdusa.com and FCPeuro.com when you need quality parts with lots of options; I've been a customer more than 10 years. It's never worth doing it twice.

My 2003 S80 has 340k+ miles on her. Had a code I don't remember a couple years ago ,got a thermostat from Volvo that I was told was wrong. I think that guy was wrong. My engine doesn't overheat per se but is hotter than you'd think it should be. Of course My transmission slips, it was in limp mode. Had the shift solenoids replaced it drove beautifully but is repeating the earlier issues. I'm thinking transmission fluid not cooling, I need to check to make sure old thermostat not completely done for. Today cleaning the mass airflow sensor (it hesitates on acceleration) After all that's done any suggestions? I need a new view . Thank you

that green antifreeze with ethanol glycol will eat into that impeller since its plastic and make it soft . Should of used the other type thats orange or brown .Same problem with changing out heater cores if the core has plastic sides it will eventually leak with the green antifreeze makes the plastic weaker or just replace with full aluminum core so it cant happen .

Was the head gasket breached on the car since it overheated?

Robert DIY Luckily, no. The person I bought it from shut it down and had it towed as soon as the temp started to rise. Then, I was able to put it on my lift, tear it apart and found all the impeller fins sitting there, broken off.

You didn't have any issues with the PCV system? Got a hell of a bad oil leak I'm fixing. Resealing is terrible.

On the S60's I have, with that silly oil separator under the intake, but no pcv issues with this S80- but that was just lucky..

Is it easy to fix? I have a s40 2010 and would the engine giggle or shake rough?

Not easy. This involved an entire timing belt change. Nope, it would'nt make the engine giggle or shake. Goodson do you have a check engine light?

@@MidknightMechanics no sir. The guy i bought it from 3wks ago said its never happened but when i looked through the car and fluid levels ect there was almost just a cup of coolant in the res so i topped it off. He said in modern cars if i dont do a flush then something can cause the enging to get hot and shut off. Mind you hes supposedly a 24yr old machanic for the army but to me i feel i got a lemon. Ive never had a problem with any vehicle ive owened in 28yrs and ive had new and old cars and ive never had a coolant problem like this.

Full timing belt service, tune up, front control arms, tires, good amount of stuff. Then about 2 months later the transmission started slipping.
