Awesome effect! Thanks. But how did you change the milting-whole-like pixels to the rock feeling cube as the cover?

@@josephthomasvfx okay bro
great tutorial , what if i wanted a shader field to effect only a certain part of my object?
@josephthomasvfx
Жыл бұрын
Hey! Yes, that is possible but it is a tricky setup that I may need to make a new video for. Inside the volume builder object properties, you will need to create a group and place the shader field inside that group. Create a new sphere and place it inside the same group and make sure the sphere is above the shader field. Change the sphere to subtract and the group to subtract too. You can then use the new sphere as a mask for the noise. Hopefully, that makes sense but I think I'll make a video for this at some point anyway.
Hi Joseph, thank you for the tutorial. It is really helpful as in it helps to create some beautiful abstract art. I was playing around and replaced the sphere with other objects (i.e. torus, square etc) under shader field but the noise affect doesn't show up on screen. If you see this comment do you mind explaining why? Thank you so much!

Hey Catherine! Thanks for watching the video! when you replace the sphere with a different object you will need to re-order the layers inside the volume builder settings so that the new object is beneath the shader field. By default it places it above everything else which is why it's not applying the noise and the smooth to your object.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Would it be possible to animate the shader on this? Nothing seems to happen when I set the loop period or the animation speed so I was wondering if there was another way

if you use random field, the animation works

Random field doesn't provide full control, if you want to animate shader field simply check "Frame" checkbox in the field menu
@josephthomasvfx

That should work :D
Great tutorial, question what is the key command to toggle through noises ?
@josephthomasvfx
Жыл бұрын
You can toggle through noises inside the noise shader. If you select the Noise drop down menu then select anywhere else on your screen to close the dropdown menu you can then cycle through the different noise types using the up and down keys on your keyboard.
Very nice tips, thanks! How can you change de the size of the Shader Field? I cannot make this effect on a cube that is 400cm X 200xm X 200cm for example. It's like the fields always stay at 200cmX200cmX200cm like on your tutorial. Any idea? Thanks! :)

I just added a link to the thumbnail project file in the video description if you want to take a look.
hi! A cool tutorial, but I didn't succeed, I'm trying to figure out maybe I have too old a version of r21, I can't apply the shader effector. It just doesn't apply in the volume creation window. What could be the matter?
@josephthomasvfx

Hi, sorry not sure why it's not working for you. I've included a copy of my project files in the video description if you want to take a closer look and perhaps find why it's not working on your end.

Do you know how to create mesh bumps using simply a texture or texture map? thanks!

Sub polygon displacement will do that for you.
@josephthomasvfx
Жыл бұрын
If you add a displacer deformer inside the sphere you will be able to create bumps on the surface using noise.
What if the polygon object is huge? I can't make the shader field any larger than a small cube.
@josephthomasvfx

There should be a setting that you can change in the shader field properties inside the volume builder called “box size”
Is it possible to bake volume animation ?
@josephthomasvfx
Жыл бұрын
Yes you sure can! Select the volume mesher you want to bake then go the file menu and export as an alembic file (abc). Once the bake is finished you can then import the alembic file and the geometry will be baked.
