    You need to change your mindset. Being successful isn't about how lucky you are. Being successful is all about how skilled you are. You need to be focused on your skills. You do this by paying attention to what you're doing when you set. As you set, pay attention to what you do and what the result is.

  • @DennisJacksonvts

    @DennisJacksonvts

    2 жыл бұрын

    That's a tough question. If you're playing sand doubles, I would hold onto the ball slightly longer to help take spin off the ball. For indoor hand setting, the setting is more hands and wrists. For the sand, you want to also use the legs and bend the elbows. So, as the ball comes into the hands, be in a position to bend the legs and elbows as you are lowering with the ball.

  • @DennisJacksonvts

    @DennisJacksonvts

    4 жыл бұрын

    If your mechanics are good, then I would definitely focus on setting to a target. The target gives you instant feedback on accuracy and consistency. Start out by trying to hit the target for 3 in a row. If you can hit a target 8 out of 10 times, you're doing really good. Also, figure out how your teammates want the ball. Some like the set higher, while others like it lower. Become aware of how each player wants to be set. And always know which player you are setting before you set them.

    If you haven't been playing much lately, it may take awhile to get going again. For setting, you want to eventually be able to get a feel of where your hitter is. The more you set, the more you will start to sense where the hitter is. It's really the skill of anticipation. The better you know your teammates, the better you will anticipate them. Know their tendencies, how they like the ball set, etc. When you know your teammates really well and are good at anticipating situations, then everything becomes much easier.

    Hossam Benhammou I'm not sure what you're asking. When moving into zone 6 to set, do one of two things...1) Beat the ball there and get in position to square up to the left front area and step left to right foot 2) If you can't get there in time, you need to set as you are making a single foot move on the ball. This is usually either a left foot plant move, right foot spin move, or a right foot jump set.

    Ok I think figured out your problem. It could because you move your fingers, causing it to spin. You want to keep them the same shape all the time, keeping that triangle shape. You do not move your fingers, keeping them spread out and in place, but of course not stiff.

  • @mapletreeleafshollow168

  • @DennisJacksonvts

    @DennisJacksonvts

    4 жыл бұрын

    The key to setting the ball farther is to focus on taking the ball high and keeping it high. Don't make the mistake of bending the elbows to push the ball more. You don't want to push it. You want to take it high, keep it high, then you'll set it high. Most movement should be with the hands and wrists. Less movement at the elbows. At first, this technique may not feel right. But you have to practice every day and soon it will start to feel right. Find a wall to set the ball to. Remember, always keep the ball high above the head. If you bring the ball down in front of your face, then you're just creating bad habits. Take the ball high, keep it high and fire it fast out of the hands. Push ups, pull ups, and overhead presses are good exercises. Medicine ball rapid fire setting to the wall should also help.

  • @DennisJacksonvts

    @DennisJacksonvts

    3 жыл бұрын

    For the sets to the right side attacker, as you set forward to set just as you would step to set the left side attacker.... to set the ball off the net, slightly turn the body toward the net as you are setting. If the set is too far off, then don't turn as much. The key is to keep the move to be similar to setting the ball to the left side attacker. You want everything to look the same so the block and defense don't easily read your movement. Also, you want movement consistent then just must make slight adjustments to your technique. For example, to set further back, step forward more aggressive and be moving aggressively through the ball as you set the back. Also, to get the ball back further, focus on getting the ball in and of the hands faster. Mostly wrist action and less elbow bend.

    If you're taking an approach to spike and you hit with your non-hitting hand, then you need to switch your steps so you can rotate your body. For example, if you are right-handed, your last two steps should be right-left. If you hit left-handed, your last steps should be left-right. If the steps aren't in that order, it's tough to rotate the shoulders.

  • @DennisJacksonvts

    @DennisJacksonvts

    3 жыл бұрын

    Great question! Definitely practice setting by focusing on hand movement for bending the wrists. You want the ball in and out of the hands as fast as you can. You can practice this by dribble the ball against a wall. Keep the hands high and arms fairly straight when you dribble to the wall. This is to strengthen the hands and fingers. I find it to be easier to set the ball higher, the higher I am when I take the ball in. So you want to take the ball high and keep it high when you set. Don't make the mistake of creating a lot of elbow bend. There isn't much movement at the elbows when you set because you want the ball in and out of the hands as fast as you can. Practice setting from on the floor and take the ball high and keeping it high. After you get comfortable with this setting motion, do the same technique from a jump set.

    I'm not sure if you're asking for what to do if the incoming pass is high? Or are you just trying to set the ball higher? To set higher, definitely work on your hand setting speed. Work to get the ball in and out of the hands as fast as you can. Rapid fire wall setting drills are also good. Practice setting exaggerated distances will help. Get a partner or wall and set further than you normally would. Also set higher than normal. Then, when you go back to setting the normal distance, this should be much easier.

    @@rickysuper3518 No matter how short you are, a higher contact is always better. If you take the ball high and keep it high then this forces you to get the ball in and out of the hands fast. I think a common mistake is shorter players think the only way to set higher is by bending the elbows to bring the ball down then push the ball out. But I think bending the elbows results in the ball being in the hands longer and this is why the hands are slow. To set high, develop fast hands. To get fast hands, take the ball high and keep it high throughout the setting motion. Rapid fire wall setting drills will help speed up your hands.
