I'm not sure the actual reason but I can think of three ideas watching the game. The first being they simply want more passing defense. The second idea could be because they are hitting pipes instead of middle so they don't station anyone on the net just to block. The third could be that it's some type of agreement between the two teams or playing style. If you notice the other team they are playing agasint also don't have a middle.
