It's seems like the people that are complaining about the Passat, never owned one. I own a 2013 Passat, which is my weekend car, and yes if you put them side by side you have to look at the details. Exterior and interior will have slight changes, but people will still buy. I'm sorry people, but that's the way things are. People complain about Chevrolet being expensive, or BMW being cash cows pertaining to parts and services. In the end it's how you take care if them.

I love this car. I have a 2008 Passat with the 2.0 liter 4 cylinder turbo engine that puts out 200 horsepower but it uses premium gas. The body style is the older style Passat. It has the right amount of power, I wouldn't want a car with less power! I want a newer one!

i like vow's design language. it is very german. no one ever complains about the iterative updates of other german manufacturers. what are we calling "exciting" styling, the awful honda, toyota or hyundai designs. i'd much rather have the clean timeless look of vw over the bulbous, tumor design of some of their competitors.

Great Review Steve. I totally agree that despite the upgrades, they need to redesign this car. Most, if not maybe all of the the other classmates are better designed that this. On the one positve, at least they are now tuning their engines to run 87 octane.

New? I had those exact same instrument gauges and center read out in my 2011 VW CC that I purchased in 2010. The Nav/Radio screen is way too small. The non-LED fog lights look out of place. This thing is a dud. Trust me, I owned a German made 2008 Passat and 2011 CC and this 2016 Passat is nothing like they were. It doesn't even have the same sophisticated driving feel as the older ones. If VW was smart they would just make the exact same European Passat in the Tennessee factory only stretching the wheelbase and length.

if you want a bunch of chaos in your design elements on the interior and exterior buy a hyundai, lexus, nissan, etc. i love the understated, non fussy design of vw not to mention the fit and finish. i think its quite attractive. its like comparing a lamborghini to a porsche. porsche also has always had a very clean sculpted surface aesthetic.

It's not that THE Passat needs a refresh. It's just that they need to start selling the Germany/China version in the US. Audi virtual cockpit, sloping roof line, A4/A6 like handling. Nine inch infotainment screen. Can't beat it.

I'm more impressed with the new smaller turbo in the Jetta then I am with this engine in the Passat but it's still a solid, smooth, torquey engine. The Accord doesn't use a turbo for its 4-cylinder so you get a more traditional acceleration feel and perhaps a bit more maturity.

because VW knobs are completely solid, instead of having a rotating outer ring for adjustment. So the icon rotates with it. Lack of attention to detail in my opinion, but they're pretty consistent in their negligence.

Awesome review as always Steve! Do you know if VW has any plans to bring over some of the other European features most notably the full screen instrument cluster cockpit from the overseas version and like in the new Audi TT? Kinda makes it a hard sell to buy the US version when the other looks so much more appealing IMO. Wonder why we get the watered down version here in the US? kzread.info/dash/bejne/e4dm0sN-l7DYZrg.html

im sorry i think you modern day people are way way way way toooooo picky, all modern day cars are way better than older cars for the most part, the passat is a great car, no it really is, teh tdi engine in the passat is bomb proof, like they say look after it and it will look after you, ive had 5 vw,s are with tdi engines, and all have never let me down not once. Fantastic MPG for the 2.0 Tdi 150 bhp model go for the tdi business SE edition you get a lot of bang for your buck, and i,m averaging 56.7 mpg normal miles driving around town ect driving and motorway ive had 69.4 mpg , these figures are confrimed i mean come on you cannot grumble for solid built car, i highly recommend the vw passat any day of the week, a great super reliable car, go for the above model 2014 onwards or 2016 and above if your budget will allow, Me i,m one very happy owner of a passat tdi, and with a big fat cheesy grin on my face as mpg is super, great ride, great extras, this is the car to have as far as im concerened

VW is one of the least dependable and poorly built auto brands out there along with FCA. I seriously wonder what the point of designing brandnew cars so bland and "age-proof" is, when most of their cars can't even survive just a few months without breaking down and ending up undrivable.

lol, looks like the ugly brother of the European version of the Passat B8 (Have a look at the pictures in google search). Both, the interior and the exterior are much less atracitive in the US version, in my humble opinion. No idea whats the reason of this design decission. Although the US version is cheaper i would prefer the European one (happy with my new Passat 1.8 TSI 2016 Station Wagon in black oak brown).

The Passat has the best ride quality in terms of comfort on rough roads and quieter than other midsize sedans. The suspension is soft and it absorbs road imperfections much better than its competition (Accord, Mazda 6, Camry, ...). This car doesn't pretend to be a sports car, it's simple and comfortable.

the Passat has that reputation among those who do own them before. this car once you pass 100K prepare yourself for transmission failure / Replacement they designed to be replaced not rebuild . and that cost at least $5000. so from environmental point of view this car is a very wasteful car !! i don't know why the Germans are getting away with this ?!!
