Volkswagen ID. Buzz: InsideEVs First Look Debut

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We get our first official look at the production spec Volkswagen ID. Buzz!
Volkswagen has been teasing the ID. Buzz for months now and it recently even showed off the vehicle’s exterior hidden only by symbolic camouflage that left nothing to the imagination. Today the automaker finally revealed the Buzz, which will eventually go on sale in the United States, although not in either of the two configurations that were just revealed.
The first is the short-wheelbase passenger version of the ID. Buzz, which will come with an 82 kWh battery pack (77 kWh usable capacity) and only one rear-wheel drive configuration motivated by the 201 horsepower (150 kW) / 229 pound-foot (310 Nm) motor used in other ID products. The sprint time to 100 km/h (62 mph) is not mentioned (probably around 9 seconds) but top speed is limited to 90 mph (145 km/h).
Peak charging speed is 170 kW (an increase over the maximum 135 kW you get in an ID.4), according to VW, and this will bring the battery from 5 to 80 percent in 30 minutes. The 11 kW on-board charger, available on the ID.3 and ID.4 too, needs just over 8 hours to fully charge the battery.

I think this design really was best case scenario. There’s a great video with Thomas from autogehful and the ID buzz designer that covers how much he fought with vw engineers to stay as true to the concept as possible.

It's a modern take on the tried and trusted VW Transporter Shuttle that we have come to love and adore over here in Europe. I love the ID Buzz very much. So fresh. Even though I don't have any real need for it (me, a father of two adult children in their 20's), I will still be tempted to buy one just to enjoy that trendy, modern, fresh look. While 204hp is enough for normal everyday European (read that as UK) driving, I'm hoping they'll still crank up the power a bit for no particular reason than to satisfy the young boy/girl inside us all. A 350bhp AWD perhaps 🤔Well, a man is allowed to dream.

Like the ID.4, it has the binnacle ON the steering column, so that it's visible no matter where you adjust the wheel. This is a much better solution than a yoke. If the display is accurate, it suggests a 245 mi range at 100%. I'd want more range, bigger battery, and… a camper version.

My biggest question is why it will take so long to get a version in the US. There is a market for this, plenty of baby boomers with disposable income. Give it a 100KWh+ battery, awd and it will sellout. VW is the biggest tease..they have been toying with a bus revival for 20yrs. Get with it!

But at least when VW set a date for a model's production, they stick to the date. Unlike Elon who has missed the production dates of the Tesla Roadster and the Cybertruck by several years. At least now we know when the Buzz is coming. It's guaranteed.

I agree. If it comes with a 100kwh battery and a charging curve simular to the ID 4 but at the 170 kw speed. If they wait another 2 years it gives everybody else a chance to steal there sales with another mini van. A niche that is otherwise (i beleave) non-existent.

  • @greenne

@@exploreoutthere6678 I'll be watching closely. This is a vehicle begging for adventure(aka roadtrip). It will need to have enough range to comfortably road trip. It seems like my choices are this or a phev Pacifica (or maybe a Sienna prime). I really like the id4, but a hwy range of ~200mi just doesn't work for me. This needs to be at least 275mi(preferably 300+mi hwy).

Love your show. I wanted to alert you to something new though. I took time to write you this,. it is NOT junk so please read. I noticed that Fox News has begun to really push disinformation about EVs and going electric for some reason. Please please remark on this in your upcoming segment. One article in Fox Business today is actually entitled: "Filling a gas-powered vehicle can still be cheaper than charging an electric one." (link below) It only cost me only $15 last month for the 797 miles I drove. Would have cost $106 for a 30 mpg gas car! I'll take my savings thank you. There are LOTS one could report on about the EV revolution but Fox chose to spend time on this kind of message. Similar has been tweeted by them and it MUST be countered with truth. The takeaway from readers (from their comments) is that EVs are too expensive to buy and to operate and will bring down the electric grid! Please also push these important points that get at the heart of current resistance to EVs... + Electricity is Domestically produced, Locally priced. Truly 'American' energy. + Petroleum (even our own domestically produced here) is an International Commodity priced and traded on the world market that we have no control over. + So, Going Electric is Going American! Link to the Fox Business Disinformation, www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/filling-gas-vehicle-cheaper-electric Sincerely, Jeff Smith, Savage, Maryland. I hate how like 20% of the car is ahead of the driver. It appears to have horrible blindspots and the forward visibility is almost definitely worse than the old VW busses. Apparently VW can't figure out how to make a VW van that is safe in a crash that also has amazing forward visibility. Pretty sad.
